Many years ago my parents returned from China full of memories and gifts. Every time I hold these cloisonné chopsticks, I'm transported back in time. I can almost hear their voices as they shared stories about their great adventures.
One of the local places where we breakfasted - a little shop with only 8 or so tables on Sha Tin square. The lighting was dim, but it came out alright.
The cutlery, which in this case was green chopsticks and deep red chinese spoons, were placed on each table, while the crockery were stacked on shelves along the wall.
Breakfast was a very simple rice congee with fish and ginger. Delicious. I wasn't brave enough to try the one with deep fried pig intestines.
To those who have expressed worry for my wellbeing, these pictures were taken naclk in 2018, well before the current protest situation.
A female ae’o deftly plucks a minnow from a shallow brackish pond with its elongated, slender bill. Morning backlighting makes the long, thin, pink legs appear to almost fluoresce. The ae’o, or Hawaiian stilt, is a non-migratory, endemic subspecie (Himantopus mexicanus knudseni). It feeds on fish and arthropods in shallow shoreline ponds and wetlands. Though often seen in the main Hawaiian archipelago, ae’o are listed as endangered since their range and abundance have diminished with habitat loss and predation by introduced rats, mongoose, egrets, and feral cats.
A Christmas present. They look cool, black with turquoise tips I placed them on newly bought glitter foam (see what I did here?) because one or two Flickr friends kept mentioning it
