★ Hello Kitty, buffa gattina dolce e curiosa, è caratterizzata dal fiocco rosso sull'orecchio sinistro (talvolta il fiocco è rimpiazzato da un fiore a cinque petali o sono presenti entrambi, più raramente indossa altri accessori) e dall'assenza della bocca (eccezione fatta per la serie animata in cui invece la bocca è visibile).
★ Intorno al personaggio di Hello Kitty ruota un universo di pupazzi dalle fattezze infantili. Creata nel 1974 a Tokyo e registrata nel 1976, Hello Kitty è attualmente un trademark molto forte che genera un fatturato di miliardi di dollari attraverso un mechandising variegato che va da biglietti di buon compleanno a videogiochi a gioielli, tostapane, biciclette, chitarre e ogni anno vede moltiplicarsi le offerte. La frase Hello Kitty deriva dalla traduzione non letterale del nome del personaggio, che rappresenta la principale fonte di ispirazione: maneki neko ossia il gatto del benvenuto (in inglese più propriamente 'welcoming cat' e non 'hello kitty'). I detrattori hanno insinuato che il personaggio di Hello Kitty assomigli a Miffy di Dick Bruna e che dunque non avrebbe nulla di originale.
★ Il mondo di Hello Kitty include una gamma completa di amici e familiari. Quando nel 1999 fu creato il fidanzato di Hello Kitty,"Dear Daniel", i disegnatori presero il suo nome dal film del 1971 Melody, il cui protagonista era Mark Lester nel ruolo di un ragazzo di undici anni chiamato Daniel alle prese con il primo amore, e la cui colonna sonora era dei Bee Gees. Dal 2004 ha persino un gatto domestico lei stessa, chiamato Charmmy Kitty e un cucciolo di criceto di nome Sugar. Charmmy assomiglia ad Hello Kitty, ma il suo aspetto è più felino, meno antropomorfo. Charmmy Kitty è un regalo del papà di Hello Kitty, George White, e Sugar di Dear Daniel.
★ Come tutti i personaggi della Sanrio, Hello Kitty è disegnata nello stile "kawaii". Il termine non ha un'esatta traduzione in italiano, indica qualcosa di minuto e grazioso, carino, un po' lezioso ed infantile, fatto di animaletti antropomorfi, gatti senza artigli, effimero e colorato, spesso di rosa. Tale stile, ormai dilagante, trova però anche numerosi detrattori.
★ La risposta ufficiale di Sanrio alla domanda: «perché Hello Kitty non ha la bocca?» è che lei «parla con il cuore, senza utilizzare un linguaggio particolare». È stata avanzata l'ipotesi che il successo di Hello Kitty possa dipendere da questa assenza di bocca che permette ad ognuno di attribuirle i propri stati d'animo del momento, rendendola un personaggio simpatico nel senso etimologico.
★ Hello Kitty è stata commercializzata sin dagli anni settanta negli Stati Uniti. Dal 1983 ha il ruolo di abasciatore dell'UNICEF presso i bambini. Il successo, fino a farne un vero oggetto di culto, si ebbe nella seconda metà degli anni novanta, quando celebrità come Mariah Carey l'adottarono come status symbol. I finally have a My Melody room! I love it. This isn't even close to all of the My Melody and Sanrio items that I have. Let's just say that I am a huge My Melody fan, love her!

Too bad it's such a dark, cloudy day, the colours don't look quite right. I gave the chococat bag to my J-doll Laredo just to add her to the picture, and show off her new wig. I don't know what Jun Planning was thinking putting that grey blonde thing on her head, dusty dirt roads, maybe, but she's perfect now!

Quando nel 1999 fu creato il fidanzato di Hello Kitty,"Dear Daniel", i disegnatori presero il suo nome dal film del 1971 Melody, il cui protagonista era Mark Lester nel ruolo di un ragazzo di undici anni chiamato Daniel alle prese con il primo amore, e la cui colonna sonora era dei Bee Gees. Dal 2004 ha persino un gatto domestico lei stessa, chiamato Charmmy Kitty e un cucciolo di criceto di nome Sugar. Charmmy assomiglia ad Hello Kitty, ma il suo aspetto è più felino, meno antropomorfo. Charmmy Kitty è un regalo del papà di Hello Kitty, George White, e Sugar di Dear Daniel.
★ Come tutti i personaggi della Sanrio, Hello Kitty è disegnata nello stile "kawaii". Il termine non ha un'esatta traduzione in italiano, indica qualcosa di minuto e grazioso, carino, un po' lezioso ed infantile, fatto di animaletti antropomorfi, gatti senza artigli, effimero e colorato, spesso di rosa. Tale stile, ormai dilagante, trova però anche numerosi detrattori.
★ La risposta ufficiale di Sanrio alla domanda: «perché Hello Kitty non ha la bocca?» è che lei «parla con il cuore, senza utilizzare un linguaggio particolare». È stata avanzata l'ipotesi che il successo di Hello Kitty possa dipendere da questa assenza di bocca che permette ad ognuno di attribuirle i propri stati d'animo del momento, rendendola un personaggio simpatico nel senso etimologico.
★ Hello Kitty è stata commercializzata sin dagli anni settanta negli Stati Uniti. Dal 1983 ha il ruolo di abasciatore dell'UNICEF presso i bambini. Il successo, fino a farne un vero oggetto di culto, si ebbe nella seconda metà degli anni novanta, quando celebrità come Mariah Carey l'adottarono come status symbol. Molte celebrità americane hanno contribuito al successo della gattina:Ricky Martin, Mariah Carey, Cameron Diaz, Heidi Klum, Steven Tyler, Christina Aguilera, Carmen Electra, Mandy Moore, Raven-Symoné, Varla Jean Merman, Paris e Nicky Hilton sono stati fotografati con oggetti che ritraggono Hello Kitty. La cantante Lisa Loeb, che è la testimonial della chitarra rosa Hello Kitty Stratocaster, ha ammesso di essere una vera fan ed ha persino dedicato alla micetta un intero album chiamato Hello Lisa.
This is my Sanrio compact mirror collection. All were made quite recently although one is from 1993. I never leave the house without a little mirror in my bag so they are much loved! I think my favourite is the My Melody one but i love them all!

PERSONAL FUN FACT: I have to say that this Barbie stole my heart the first time I laid eyes on her around Christmas 2018. Colleen and I were cruising the toy section at our local Wal-Mart, hoping to find on sale Harry Potter dollies. As we wandered the aisle, I spotted a copious amount of these Pioneer Woman Barbies on display. My first thought was, "Holy crap, this is the coolest idea ever!" In my travels in home ware sections at stores, I often come across The Pioneer Woman merchandise, and here and there I may have even bought something (like one of those jar cups with lid/straw combos). I always thought that the designs of the items were cute, even if things were often over priced. To think that The Pioneer Woman is so popular that she inspired a Barbie in her image is WAY cool! I am a sucker for any sort of celebrity/pop culture doll. And the fact that The Pioneer Woman, aka Ree Drummond, is famous for homey stuff, makes this doll even more awesome to me. Martha Stewart Barbie much?!!! Anyways, I love that this cutie has red hair like Ree and additional freckles. Even if she wasn't sold with a temptingly huge kitchen set choked full of loads of dolly sized food, I still would have been intrigued. I desperately hoped that this doll would go on some kind of sale so I could add her to my collection someday. She was originally marked at $45, which quite frankly is way out of my price range (and even if I did have nearly $50 to blow on one doll, I wouldn't spend it on a Barbie). I started losing hope that there would be any sort of markdown on these sets. Then one early morning in May 2019, I happened to strike luck. I was doing my routine Friday morning grocery run to Wal-Mart, when I popped in the toy section. I don't make a habit of this, mostly because Barbie stuff doesn't go on sales too often, and Monster High and Bratz aren't sold anymore. But on this occasion I needed to look at fashion packs, to see if I could find something to fit my newly acquired, very nude, curvy Barbie. After picking out an adorable Chococat inspired fashion for Miss Chambray Chic, I scoped out the other toys. It was on the bottom shelf beneath the Harry Potter and Disney dolls that I found a lone Pioneer Woman box. I figured, "what the heck, I'll check her price to see if she's on sale." I thought that maybe she'd be $30 now, still more than I wanted to pay. But lo and behold, when I scanned her, Barbie rang up at FIFTEEN DOLLARS! I was so shocked, that I double checked, thinking there had to be a mistake. Nope, she was indeed only $15, which was exactly what my cheap self wanted to pay. I was so excited that even took a picture of Barbie and told Colleen of the find. She told me later that she was distracted all day at work, thinking of this fabulous Pioneer Woman doll. Out of the box, this gal is just as stunning. Her hair felt gross upon first inspection, but a boil wash revealed stunning, saran tresses. I love her closed lip head mold too. I think it fits this doll more so than Barbie's toothy, cheesy head mold would have. It's not all that often that a Barbie tempts me as much as this doll. I even looked for her online to see if I could get a deal. But I'm so glad I waited patiently, because I got her for such a steal. Did I need yet another Barbie kitchen? Absolutely not, but this has to be one of the most unique doll concepts I have ever seen!
