life is not a box of roses

The Elm trees are gone. The sidewalk is repaired. Most homes are now vinyl clad.

Recently while going through some boxes in my closet at my parents', I found these pins back. In Dutch they are called "buttons", pronounced with a typically Dutch [ ø ] sound, because many Dutch for some reason don't pronounce the English "u" as a [ ʌ ]. Probably because the "u" is often pronounced like that in Dutch...

As a kid I collected these pins, partly on my travels, hence the KLM pins. UM stands for "Unaccompanied Minor", which I got when I traveled to Canada as a 10-year old kid without my parents (they did take me to the airport). Other pins I collected a few years later as part of my "microcomputer" hobby, hence the Commodore 64 and Apple ][ dating from between 1982-1984.

ODC 7 Dec: Childhood memories

Discovering. This is the hand of one of the kids at our center. He found this feather outside on the playground and was so fascinated with his find. He asked, " Is this from a bird"?, and when I told him "yes it is", he excitedly said "Take a picture Mr. Ed, take a picture"! I could do nothing but smile and snap away. Childhood discovery is so amazing. Almost on a daily basis, I am awed and caused to remember what it was like to discover things for the first time. I am blessed to be able to work with kids of all levels and abilities.

My two childhood dolls from 1969 and 1971, both clones. The dress on the left is an original Barbie sheath On the Go - Fashion pak #1398 from 1964. The striped dress is perhaps Petras Ostende from 1964. The red slippers came with the dress and also a pink round "petra"-bag. The dresses are also from my childhood.

Sorry- I am a bit late on week #2, but I was "off the grid" for awhile. I don't have kids, but we love to share our love of Disney with our nieces and nephews. This week was an adults only cruise, but these guys always remind me of several childhood moments.

i remember a day from my childhood. infact it was much as a moment than a day. the moment that i turned into a redskin.

i wore a bandage of my mom to my head. then stick some decorative feathers from house, and some pigeon feathers that i picked before from street, thrgouh the bandage. i made some war-paint from some electric tapes to my face. there was noone at home. where were they?

then i went outside. i don't remember if it was summer or winter.

i walked around our apartment for a while as a redskin.

it should probably the most dead moment in noon.

there was noone outside.

Richard Zera quotes

A photograph (obviously by plane) of my childhood home and the orchards surrounding it, on the edge of the village of Wickhamford in Worcestershire. The date it was taken is uncertain; probably 1964 through to 1969.

A young girl paints her masterpiece with bright colors.

This is the first picture I edited in photo shop. The picture in my eye is one of me as a child. Much better viewed large : )
