Whitney Moore Young Jr. (1921-1971) was an African-American civil rights leader who spent most of his career working to end employment discrimination in the United States. As Executive Director of the National Urban League he turned it from a relatively passive civil rights organization into one that fought for equitable access to socioeconomic opportunity for the historically disenfranchised. Young drowned in 1971 while swimming with friends in Lagos, Nigeria where he was attending a conference.
In 1977, six years following his death, the Christian Welfare Society, Inc. of San Francisco, recognized as the first school in the nation for low-income handicapped children, changed its name in dedication to the late Whitney Young Jr. At the same time the organization launched a unique and innovative new program for urban childcare. This program would, in the ensuing years, go on to set new expectations in the role of child development centers throughout the nation.
I love my job as a nanny here in Los Angeles, and this summer I'm going to Thailand to help the children there. But I need some help to make it happen.
I'll be volunteering (for 4 weeks this July) at a Temple in Surin, Thailand. I’ll be working in a daycare, run by the Monks there. The daycare was created to help impoverished families, so parents have a safe place to leave their children so that they can go and work. Volunteering abroad is something I have always wanted to do. i will do whatever I can to help those who need it. I want to make a difference, no matter how small.
Knowing that I’ll be helping kids really speaks to my heart. I’ve been a nanny for 16 years and children are such an important part of my life. Everyday I feel incredibly blessed to live where I do and to earn a living doing something I LOVE. The children I take care of are all so wonderful that it’s made me realize that I want to pursue it as a career. I’ve recently gone back to school to get a degree in child development and early education. I’m faithful that the knowledge I gain from this volunteer experience will be invaluable.
Since this is a volunteer situation I will not be paid for the work I'll be doing. In fact, I will have to pay them. The organization I am volunteering with charges a fee, I'm also responsible for buying my own plane tickets, all of my own food, and my vaccinations. And of course since I won't be receiving any income, I will somehow need pay my rent when I return on the 1st of August. But I've always believed if there is a will, there is a way. If anyone watching this is touched or sees what a wonderful program this is for these poor Thai families, any donations would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for watching!

it what's left from his newborn hair that didn't fall out - and since my mom said that I can't cut his hair until his a year old (don't ask, it's a Filipino thing). It reminded me of the movie Little Rascals' Alfalfa one morning after I gave him a bath :)

not sure what the leg attachment represented but it looks pretty cool and was obviously fun... pogo stick?
Such a crappy night. I was coming down with a sinus infection and had to stay up way too late studying for a couple of my classes.
(Ignore the stickers on my binder...I may or may not have swiped them from my preschool classroom)

A child stacks jumbo building blocks. Parents love building blocks as a way to help their child with many areas of development. They teach balance, resilience, emotional growth, cause and effect, and more. Building with blocks comes naturally to kids and their creativity immediately takes hold.
"There's no way to really prepare for motherhood.
The ultimate effort in trying to meet your kids' needs, night after night without a full-night's sleep, the absolute joy of playing with your baby, the feeling of being in love so powerful that it aches your heart... It's all surprising."

In what psychologists call an “external locus of control,” external forces determine a person’s behavior, or the person believes this to be true. In an “internal locus of control,” the person determines his or her own behavior, or at least believes this to be true. During development, children develop their own sense of control by internalizing the controlling forces from the outside.
(Side note: My wife thinks that the parent is adjusting the boy's diaper. My perception is that the parent is attempting to hold the boy back from touching the glass of the aquarium. The previous shot in my photostream actually occurred AFTER this one, which I think reflects the boy's frustration at not being able to grab the fish).

If your child is headed to the child development centers , it is not an easy process to choose first school for your Toddler New Jersey. Every city and state have different programs for the kids such as Head Start and other government-funded programs for low-income families; private programs of many stripes and price points; free or low-cost classrooms in public schools, sometimes guaranteed and sometimes secured by lottery.
