The ribbon has been cut on the UK campus location of the Child Development Center of the Bluegrass. Let the learning begin!
I took this of my Children's book collection that I keep in my preschool classroom. I teach Pre-K.
I have been collecting Children's books for years now. I have many Green Tiger Press books that are out of print.
Many books I buy because I love the illustrations.
I also collect fairy and fantasy books.
I organize my books into these blue book bins that have a plastic sleeve on the side of the box to put a label. I organize the books by theme and also by authors. The books that are just general read aloud books go on my smaller bookshelf. I also have books that are sets together. ie. Curious George, The Berenstain Bears, Clifford, Dr. Seuss, Little Critters etc.
I am a storyteller and I also have many puppets. I also have a collection of books on cassette and CD. Those are stored in the basket.

From left to right: Samuel and Kevin Dunham, his dad Scott, his brother Mike, and nephew Jake.
Lara Robinson:
“There are a lot of amazing fathers out there (including my own) but I feel the need to recognize my husband, Kevin Dunham, this Father’s Day.
“We have two children: our daughter is 12 months and our son is 5 years old. Kevin is an incredibly patient, loving and hands-on father. He has always been an equal partner in child care and child rearing. And let’s be honest, being a dad in the early years of childhood is often tough—moms usually get top billing.
“But over the years he has become our son’s super-hero; daddy is the best at building with Legos, fixing just about anything or making his signature weekend breakfasts. And as I have watched him dance with our daughter in our arms, I know that all future men in her life will be measured by his standards.”

This photo is of my husband, Brett Broussard, our 7-year-old son Kyle and 3-year-old daughter Morgan.
Cheryl Broussard:
“Before I had kids, I wasn’t sure how good of a mom I would be (I was the spoiled “baby” of the family and had never even babysat before). However, I was very confident that my husband would be a great dad, and he hasn’t let me down!
“Since our youngest child was born three years ago, he has been a stay-at-home parent, which we all know is one of the hardest jobs there is. When I was growing up, my friends were always envious of my own dad (who is now all the grandkids’ favorite “Gramp”) --- now my work friends are envious that I have a husband who stays home with our daughter, totes my son back and forth to school and other activities, and even has the energy to cook for us (delicious Cajun meals, by the way)!
“So a tribute to all the dads, and all the ways they work hard to support the families that they love.”

Elizabeth Parra Dang (right) with her father, Bill Parra, and her older sister, Margot, on Father’s Day in 1994
Elizabeth Parra Dang:
“My father has worked in public health his entire career and is still its biggest fan! Currently, he is a champion for reducing global tobacco use.
“Growing up my whole life surrounded by CDC and public health endeavors, my father’s passion for the field has clearly inspired me to take a similar path. He has always been supportive of my choices but I am sure the reason for making wise choices in the first place is due to my solid upbringing.
“My parents always say my sister and I were a piece of cake to raise….but I’m sure they had a lot to do with that for which we are very lucky!”

Michael Curtis with his daughters, Jessica and Ashley Curtis.
Jessica Curtis:
“My dad means the world to me,” is an understatement. I don’t know who I would be without him. He’s my number one fan and supporter. No matter what, he’s always there.
Not only does he continue to be the provider and supporter of my family, but he supported and served in the United States Army for 20 years. He’s a jack of all trades, working on cars, home repairs, building, grilling, he does it all. He’s a wonderful husband, father, and he’s my best friend!
About two years ago, my dad had a heart attack. I rushed him to the hospital. As he set in the passenger side, struggling to stay awake, all I could think about was losing him. He survived and continues to live his life to the fullest, living by his motto, “Every day is a holiday!”

This picture is at the graduation ceremony for my son Kevin, who graduated from Georgia Southern this past May. The photo includes my sons James, Jr. and Kevin; my grandson, Malachi; my wife Brenda and our daughter Angela holding our granddaughter Phoebe. That’s me in the background.
James Scales:
“I’ve always taken my role as a father very seriously. It has been the greatest opportunity that I’ve ever been afforded. My wife Brenda is the nurturer and provides the tender care. I am the ‘point-man and pace-setter’ for my family. Our greatest joy now is enjoying the grandkids and fulfilling our roles as “Papa and Nana”! Everything has come full circle!”

Tom Bach:
Tom has worked for Reckitt Benckiser, the maker of Lysol, in the chemistry field, technical service and professional relations for over 30 years. He and his company are long-time supporters of the work of CDC. One of the projects they are supporting is NCBDDD’s charming new children’s book, Amazing Me. This free book is all about what to look for as your child grows and develops. You can download or order a copy at www.cdc.gov/amazingme.
About this photo, Tom says, “We are the parents of six great children and now the family continues to grow!”

Amanda Tarkington’s father, Ike Tarkington.
Amanda Tarkington:
“My father was a creative, loving and playful man.
“He also had an incredible green thumb. He could bring to life not only plants, but the imagination in my toddler’s mind and heart. I remember a bumper crop of sunflowers once that he helped me befriend as if they were new family members.
“I’m so lucky to have had such a creative role model who helped me see magic in the world and fantastic possibilities in the ordinary.”

This gentleman is Jesse Will Grier, father of Dorthina Grier Grant.
Dorthina Grier Grant:
“I credit my dad with being the driving force behind instilling good work ethics in me and my sister.
“I cannot recall a time when he didn’t have a job. When I was a child he would get up around 3AM, drive around our hometown in Woodland, Alabama, pick up riders and drive 63 miles to Atlanta to work and back home every day.
“We moved to Atlanta when I was 13, but that didn’t stop him from getting up before the crack of dawn to get ready for work. Although he’s been gone for 12 years, I can still hear him say ‘Keep you a job, girl, and never be late. If you leave early enough, you’ll have plenty of time. Always do your work, and always do your best.’ His spirit lives on in me – now I’m the one who gets up at 3AM to get ready for work!”

Tom Horne with his daughter Katie.
Tom Horne:
“I call this photo ‘The Other Irrational Exuberance!’
“When Katie was about 8 years old we were invited one morning to watch the spring herd of about 1,500 sheep with their newborn lambs being herded to their summer pasture in the high mountains outside of Durango, Colorado.
“She was watching the herd as any normal kid would do until the Peruvian shepherd picked up one of the lambs and handed it to me for her to touch and get a photo. She began jumping and squealing with delight -- you would have thought she’d just won the lottery! This is still one of my very favorite photos.
“We should all have occasions to share this other type of irrational exuberance!”

Chris Parker:
“This picture was taken a few years ago and reminds me of how fast time goes. Working at CDC and within NCBDDD has afforded me the opportunity to balance my personal and professional work lives and take full advantage of so many precious moments along the path to where each is today.”

Sam Lucido, father of NCBDDD’s Sal Lucido.
Sal Lucido:
“This photo epitomizes all of my father’s greatest qualities: his passion for the things he loves to do; the enjoyment he gets from teaching people about the things he loves to do; and the ease and comfort he has in a kitchen – like any Sicilian man.”
