Crown Fountain Maintenance ~ Millennium Park ~ Chicago, Illinois

Nikon D7500, Nikkor 18-300, ISO 280, f/10.0, 48mm, 1/250s

Those two white ghost lines on the street are light reflecting off that skyscraper way off in the background.

The Willis Tower is framed here by portions of several buildings in the foreground including the BMO Tower and Union Station Transit Center in the West Loop area of Chicago's Near West Side.

The 5 axis sensor stabilization was a great help in creating this shot.

Not a Duratrans, but none the less my credible deliberately edited homage to Jeff Walls' - "A Sudden Gust of Wind" 1993

I am NOT a fan of staged photography, which this is not, and thus would not fall into the 'fotografia buffa' category.

However I was amused by Jeff Walls image.

What may appear as a man being blown over by Chicago's famous wind is indeed (spoiler alert) an anonymous guy arising after having just tied his shoe.

I just added those two leaves behind him.

I got a lot of help from that tilted over weed to the right.

OK - mildly interesting jacket at a mildly interesting cobblestone intersection. What I need is a Surfer dude to raise the eye interest level.

Don't let the sunshine fool you. It was a typical chilly windy afternoon on State street when the dude strolled by.

Well, I guess when your stoked it's all good.

A framing playground

I like how every element is holding it's own in relation to the others to balance out the 'space' of this location.

There are too many melodramatic monochromatic high contrast artsy photos which have been edited and stripped of their natural beauty.

Show me the unadulterated “picture essence” of an everyday scene.

Let me see it’s inherent colors and enjoy the feeling of the moment.

SOOC - straight out of camera

Chicago Transit Authority car No. 5127 crosses the diamonds at Tower 18 on the elevated “L” rapid transit railway above Lake and Wells Streets on November 8, 2018. This junction is still considered one of the busiest railroad crossings in the world.

The only thing "in focus" in this image is the center edge of the elevator doors. Allowing the rest of the picture it's submarine look.

a little fun at the expense of the CTA in Chicago

A tremendous sense of style.

And carried it magnificently.

I like this shot because it captures that strange silent moment in a crowd.

I lived for more than two years in the beautiful city of Chicago. This summer we were back with our kids to show them around. So wonderful to return to our 2nd home. The loop where the metro makes a square round is a cool place to bring your camera. Just before my family woke up I took some picture while the city was waking up. A super memory.

Enjoy your Sunday

I feel that my pictures are too regimental. I have been attempting to overcome this tendency towards the perfectly structured image and move away from the formality of the "staged look".

Perhaps in this shot such was a necessity, but if I could loosen up a little and strive to be as casual as Winogrand or Eggleston.

The umpire at struggling Ted Williams' last game told him "if you want 400 you need to be loose". On that note Ted finished his career that day at 406.

Ha, that 'tow zone' sign is holding the whole city from falling over.

Yes, I was one click from straightening this shot, but I like that Winnogrand casual flow it presents.

A seemingly benign street picture until you see that sign.

I did not stick around to eavesdrop on their plans.

++ I gotta get me a new lens 😫

As a 'CCC' Card carrying colorist you would guess I am looking forward to summer's bright light and depth of colors, but through my recent studying of Winogrand's photos I am drawn back to my years of monochrome and have lined up a series of black and white images.

View of Chicago River Point.

Chicago “abstract perspective” architecture. Currently undergoing a renovation. Will be "Googleplex" or something similar.

Ms. Tubman's biography / history is fascinating.

Simply speaking, she could have ran and never looked back.

But she chose to turn back and help. Over and over she saved lives. Placing herself in danger.

we hold up many individuals as 'heroes' - Ms. Tubman is the unadulterated definition of a true Hero.

This photo is a tunnel reaching back through time; H. Seymour Squyer took the original photo in 1885, then a visual artist created this public installation in the Red line Subway of Chicago, and I photographed it into the present moment.

It being displayed in the 'underground' subway is sheer genius on the part of the artist. Look as I did I could not ascertain who that artist is.

I wanted to render that magic moment of friends strolling down State street on a wonderful Chicago afternoon.

Ein CTA-Train ist hier unterwegs in Richtung Osten und wird als nächste Station Clark/Lake erreichen.
