BOLIVIA: Cash for Checkups to Slash Maternal Deaths
LA PAZ, Mar 2, 2010 (IPS) - A social programme in Bolivia that prevents the deaths of two mothers a day from complications related to pregnancy and childbirth is making headway despite administrative difficulties, and has the potential to cut the alarmingly high maternal mortality rate in this country by up to 80 percent in just five years.

I saw Dr F today - it's been 6 weeks since I had my last appointment/knee checkup. All things considered, he's pretty happy with where the knee is today, 10 weeks after my fourth surgery. There are still some lingering things that hurt/bother me, but I do have to keep in mind that this was the second surgery within the same year, and the fourth overall...it's bound to take a little longer. He wants to see me again in 6 weeks - I'm just supposed to try and not aggravate the main place that hurts, and he said if it hurts when I kick while swimming, then don't kick so hard. Gee thanks, Doc! Ultimately, though, it looks like I'm definitely on the right track now...phew!
Stanford recently moved almost all of their outpatient services to a new outpatient center, away from the main hospital. It's great for me - it's actually much easier to get to than having to get all the way back to the Stanford campus. And talk about fancy new digs! There are four buildings all connected by a center hub area. The site houses outpatient clinics, administration offices, faculty offices, outpatient surgery, and other services. The building that Dr F's office is in is full of dark wood, glass, natural light, and fancy artwork/sculptures. His waiting room is now very plush, with cushy chairs, great views of the Bay, and less chaos than the old waiting room (that could also have been because it was before 8am). The exam room was no different - all very nice and new. When Dr F walked into the room, I said "Nice new digs you have here!" He laughed and said he'd been waiting a long time for this to open up. The center was under construction for 3 years, and in the plan for many years prior to that. I guess the local paper wasn't kidding when they compared it to the "Ritz-Carlton" of hospitals.
I met a friend for lunch and liked the look of the rock facing on the wall of the restaurant. Plus it fit the "rocky road" theme...
After my checkup at the dentist this morning the boys and I hauled ass up to Meaford to visit with my Parents and my aunt (and her friend) who is visiting from Oregon. I finished up working while the boys went into the town for a little swim at the pool and then we had a BBQ.
After dinner it was time for a walk down to the water to skip some stones which quickly turned into a brisk swim. I think the boys may be full on crazy!
this is day 205 of my fourth year in pictures...

We went for your four-month checkup today and you are up to a whopping 14.45 lbs and 24.5 inches! Kinda blew Mama's estimates way out of the water. After hearing about how strong and opinionated you are (don't we know it!), we went blueberry picking in Georgia with some new friends. It was STINKING hot. And this was the happiest face you made the whole time we were there.
At today's four-month checkup (yes, we are more than a month behind), we learned that your head circumference is 41 inches, you weigh 13.1 pounds, and you are 25 inches long. And the fact that you still are not rolling over is balanced out by the fact that you can sit up by yourself. And based on today's tummy time antics, you may well be able to pull yourself into a sitting position before long, too.

Women bring their newborn babies for a medical checkup at a United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) health centre in the Ndjenja Resettlement camp, Mozambique, Friday 28 Feb 2020.
The climate crisis continues to impact Mozambique and women and girls remain among the most vulnerable. Research shows that more than half of maternal deaths take place in countries impacted by humanitarian crises and fragile conditions, and that gender-based violence is exacerbated in times of crisis.
One year after cyclone Idai made landfall in Mozambique, significant health and protection-related needs remain for girls and women.

One of the first things I learned after buying the MX-5 is that the front bumper air splitters are lower than the top of a parking curb. So today I’m getting those replaced…. hopefully I have enough experience avoiding curbs by now that i won’t mess up the new ones.

Dental emergencies happen. And when they do, you need to be as well-equipped as possible for the situation. From cracks to knockouts, there is some time to manage the situation and get to your family dentist in Westminster CO. Here are the steps you need to take in those first, vital minutes:
Step 1: Take a Deep Breath
Before taking any action, you need to take command of the situation. This way you can have clear eyes on what’s going on to see if there is an emergency, what it is, and how to proceed.
Step 2: Evaluate the Situation
If you’re able to get a good look at the mouth or tooth, try to determine the basics of the issue. Is it a crack? Did the tooth fall out? If so, are you able to see the tooth to determine if it’s intact? This will help you with step four.
Step 3: Store the Tooth
If the tooth was knocked out and it seems to be salvageable, you need to store it properly for transportation. If possible, try to put the tooth back in the socket without getting swallowed. You can also opt for a tooth preservation kit or milk to keep it moist.
Step 4: Contact Your Dentist
Once you have an idea of what’s going on, it’s time to contact our office. Explain to the best of your ability what happened, and our staff will guide you through the next steps. They will also make sure the office is prepared for you to come in.

This trip to the pediatrician, otherwise known as a "wellness visit," is part of a regular schedule of medical inspections that infants and toddlers have to endure for the first few years of their lives.
The 12 month wellness visit was quite different than the one seen above. Whereas Marcus was so calm and observant then, here he's acting as though he's being tortured, and is actively trying to pry off the stethoscope pressed against his chest. Poor baby (literally)!
