"What we find exotic abroad may be what we hunger for in vain at home" —The Art of Travel by Alain de Botton

Be present. Make love. Make tea. Avoid small talk. Embrace conversation. Buy a plant, water it. Make your bed. Make someone else’s bed. Have a smart mouth, and quick wit. Run. Make art. Create. Swim in the ocean. Swim in the rain. Take chances. Ask questions. Make mistakes. Learn. Know your worth. Love fiercely. Forgive quickly. Let go of what doesn’t make you happy. Grow.

— Paulo Coelho

Took this photo while at my sister in laws house for the holidays. The light was coming through window blinds hitting the guitar in a way that caught my attention.

La vie est belle or life is beautiful—the expression of a new era.

The wind was blowing, the sun was setting, and everything was perfect ♬

"It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it’s still here… 🍃🗻

Get out there and hunt and fish and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, climb the mountains, bag the peaks, run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air, sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, the lovely, mysterious, and awesome space."

— Edward Abbey

“Rivers, ponds, lakes and streams — they all have different names, but they all contain water. Just as religions do — they all contain truths.”

The Saturdays, Chasing Lights

"We need the tonic of wildness—At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be infinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable.

We can never have enough of nature. We must be refreshed by the sight of inexhaustible vigor, vast and titanic features, the sea-coast with its wrecks, the wilderness with its living and its decaying trees, the thunder-cloud, and the rain which lasts three weeks and produces freshets.

We need to witness our own limits transgressed, and some life pasturing freely where we never wander" 👟

— Walden by Henry David Thoreau

This photo was pretty simple. A piece of glass, water, spray bottle, Pepsi label and a flash. Not bad for my first time.

When I was very small, my favorite light came through the crack under the door separating our front room from the living room. My brother and I would play Barbies and Action Figures (a very involved game, for those in the know) and make fantastical scenes in the warm, golden rays that leaked through.

February doesn't have very many of those warm rays, but the light that comes through our slider is beautiful in a different way. This month has been busy, full of running around and tying up loose ends. When I need a break from the chaos, I like to open the shades, let the sun fill our living room, and just sit.

(This was taken with natural light, at about f5.6, 1/25, ISO 400.)

Another storm cloud image. Used an infrared preset and boosted the red, orange, yellow, and green colors. Removed the pole that the hummingbird is on and used the marquee tool to make the overlays.

Returned to my favorite corner in my favorite trailer full of treasures in the Catskills -- one of twelve structures packed floor to ceiling with antiques, all part of Dick Benjamin's antique compound in Monticello, New York. #antiques #catskills #newyork #treasures #treasurehunting #light #shadow #teacup #trailer #pink #haunted #explore #instagood #instadaily #chasinglight

040811 - as a photographer i have felt that my style and taste evolve according to my experience. i think that most of the photographers or every photographer will say the same. it's called learning... and experience.

i have been feeling that i am closer and closer to recognize my style, though my friends already say that recognize it. it's always tougher for us to do so, i think.

i believe that one of the statements i will write on my about page on my portfolio page (being designed as we speak), will be about chasing light. chasing light in tree leaves...

i am in love with light... morning light... sunset light. this one was caught during sunset.

“Nietzsche also proposed a second kind of tourism, whereby we may learn how our societies and identities have been formed by the past and so acquire a sense of continuity and belonging.

The person practising this kind of tourism ‘looks beyond his own individual transitory existence and feels himself to be the spirit of his house, his race, his city’.

He can gaze at old buildings and feel ‘the happiness of knowing that he is not wholly accidental and arbitrary but grown out of a past as its heir, flower, and fruit, and that his existence is thus excused and indeed justified'.”

I don't want to just exist // #vancouver #chasinglight instagram.com/p/lJa1SyyZ-h/

I am water. I am waves. I am the ocean that cannot escape its own depths no matter how many times it breaks - pulled backwards as much as it is shoved forward into a land that does not welcome it.

And so I will keep crashing upon this sunset shore, trusting that, soon, my droplets will refract enough gold to pay off your fear.
