The morning mist hangs like a curtain over the landscape. A figure walks through the fog, dew glistening in the rising sun. With each step, the mist slowly lifts, revealing what lies hidden beneath.

I often crave the kind of quiet that only a misty autumn morning can bring you.

With all this travelling it really hits me how much I love my hometown. It looked beautiful before I left.

Sometimes I take these side by side, film and digital. A repeat, shot handheld of the tree in the morning mist. This was shot on Kodak Portra 400 with the Canon EOS 1V, the last true professional 35mm film camera ever made. The Canon 1V utilizes the EF mount, so you get that modern, sweet, sweet L glass... Lens is the 70-200 L 2.8 IS III

An otherwise perfectly clear fall day was interrupted by a sudden, and thick blanket of fog. I grabbed my camera and ran down to the lake, moments later the fog was gone.

Just as quickly as the fog rolled in, it rolled back out.

We’re small. Tiny, really; essentially imperceptible splashes of color on a canvas that stretches across a universe of maybes and potentials and threatens to never end - but, damn it, don’t you understand how beautiful you are? I know I can’t see this whole canvas (it’d be overwhelming if I could..) but even a peek is enough to send me spiraling from speechless wonder to misunderstood conceptions of insignificance.

(Do I even matter?)

And then I look at you. I see how magnificently your color contrasts with the canvas behind you and I wonder if, maybe, without us, monochromatic would weep.
