The Kalbelia tribe, also known as Kalbeliya or Sapera, hails from Rajasthan, India. The name "Kalbelia" derives from "Kal," meaning death, and "Belia," meaning friend, reflecting their traditional role as snake charmers and healers. Historically, the Kalbelia were nomadic and relied on snake charming and trading snake venom for their livelihood. Their women are renowned for their distinctive dance, characterized by fluid, serpentine movements and vibrant attire, mimicking the grace of snakes.
In modern times, due to laws protecting wildlife, the Kalbelia have shifted away from snake charming. Many have embraced agriculture, daily labor, and performing arts for income. Their dance and music have gained international acclaim, becoming a symbol of Rajasthan's cultural heritage. The Kalbelia dance is now recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, providing the community with new avenues for cultural expression and tourism-related opportunities. Despite these changes, the Kalbelia continue to preserve their unique traditions and adapt to contemporary society while maintaining their cultural identity.
I had a great time watching this drake Ruddy Duck go through his courtship ritual, which involved holding his head high, then vigorously slapping his beak against his chest several times, then leaning forward with his beak open just a bit just like he was blowing kisses to the hens. I know these ducks for the way they hold their tail feathers, always at such an upright angle!
I just love his breeding plumage as it's something I'd expect Walt Disney to come up with... "Yes, and give him a blue beak, a white cheek, and red and black over the rest of his body." What a spectacular duck!! And I had doubts that I'd ever see one of these guys in breeding plumage! Yes, dreams do come true!

Wednesday Timmy was allowed to be really free for the first time, but only during the day. So also Thursday and Friday during the day. Friday evening I had closed the gate to freedom, but didn't operate the bolt properly.
When I looked after him, he had probably pressed the gate until it opened. I only saw his tail. But then a thunderstorm with storm and heavy rain came up. Timmy had disappeared for almost three hours. When he came back, he was soaking wet, tired and hungry and VERY happy to be home :-)
I dried him, gave him treats and then he lay down on the table to be brushed and stroked. The night he slept with me in the bed and could be stroked again and again the belly.
An exciting day for both of us!
BTW: Timmy loves to sit at the open window during thunderstorms and watch the lightning and wonder about the noise :-) He is a very special little boy :-))

Fourteen hours spent on cloning out the ropes, signs, pillars and stanchions just so everyone (including me) could have a good unobstructed view of this sporty 1927 Duesenberg Model X Boattail Roadster the “center piece” of the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Automobile Museum, in my opinion.

The purple heron (Ardea purpurea) is a wide ranging species of wading bird in the heron family, Ardeidae. The scientific name comes from Latin ardea "heron", and purpureus, "coloured purple".It breeds in Africa, central and southern Europe, and southern and eastern Asia. The Western Palearctic populations migrate between breeding and wintering habitats whereas the African and tropical-Asian populations are primarily sedentary, except for occasional dispersive movements.
It is similar in appearance to the more common grey heron but is slightly smaller, more slender and has darker plumage. It is also a more evasive bird, favouring densely vegetated habitats near water, particularly reed beds. It hunts for a range of prey including fish, rodents, frogs and insects, either stalking them or standing waiting in ambush.
Purple herons are colonial breeders and build a bulky nest out of dead reeds or sticks close to the water' edge among reeds or in dense vegetation. About five bluish-green eggs are laid and are incubated by both birds. The young hatch about four weeks later and fledge six weeks after that. The International Union for Conservation of Nature notes that the global population trend is downwards, largely because of the drainage of wetlands, but assesses the purple heron's conservation status as being of "least concern".
The lighthouse angled from the side angle. Not as dramatic as the cliff side but shows the base of the two structures. This is accessible by a connecting road from the main land however the sea views are certainly more imposing. The sea gull was paid by the people operating the excursion to circle the lighthouse all day for photo ops.
