Here, she is tracking a bee!
Over the last three months, we have been transforming some of the wild part of the garden into a flower garden and sitting area. I had to move the little table I built when I discovered a bees’ nest at the base of the old granite byre wall. It is a very well-populated nest! The bees love the flowers and there is a constant stream of them in and out, on the bee highway! (The blue cast-iron flower “thingy” holds water -and stepping stones- so that the bees can have a drink without drowning.)
Salyx knows not to tackle the bees - she watches but will not engage with them. Thank goodness...

We have a new addition to the ponies on the way to work. This one can only be a day or so old and is just full of the joys of spring
the red sage in my garden is blooming and the bees love it 😄 They mostly hide inside the blossoms (see pic in first comment), so here is a pic without a bee 😉

A common (but not plain) yellowthroat calls out from its cattail perch, proclaiming its righteous territory.
These bright diminutive warblers are usually in perpetual motion in dense vegetation seeking insect and spider prey and avoiding predators, making them a difficult subject for photographic attention.
Although common yellowthroats are fairly abundant and occur across a broad swath of North America, their numbers have declined by 26% over the past 50 years, due in large part to the loss of their preferred wetland habitat.
When was outside in the garden with Tofu yesterday to take my Happy Caturday photo, Sethi joined us for a while and surprisingly didn't disappear immediately when he saw the camera. 😄
I've seen a Red-necked Phalarope at Potter Marsh the last several years, but this year I've seen at least six. This beauty I believe to be a female. She was looking for food not very far from where I was sitting, enjoying the show.
Apparently with this species the females are brighter colored than the males and the males are the ones who look after the eggs and young.

One from my 2023 trip to Tanzania
Von der Decken's hornbill is a hornbill found in East Africa from Ethiopia south to Tanzania. It is found mainly in thorn scrub and similar arid habitats.
This species is a small hornbill with blackish upper parts and mainly whitish underparts and head. It has a long tail and a long curved bill.
The female has a black bill, whereas the male has a red bill with a cream tip and a black cutting edge.
When nesting the female lays two or three white eggs in a tree hole, which is blocked off with a cement made of mud, droppings and fruit pulp. There is only one narrow aperture, just big enough for the male to transfer food to the mother and chicks. When the chicks and the female are too big for the nest, the mother breaks out and rebuilds the wall.
Von der Decken's hornbill is omnivorous, eating insects, fruit and seeds. It feeds mainly on the ground and will form flocks outside the breeding season.
