The gothic palace chapel of Schloss Blutenburg. The chapel was built in 1488, replacing a fortified tower at that location. The small ridge turret is baroque and was added in 1676.

There is something about simplistic photos that just captures my heart. Perhaps it is just the reminder that sometimes in "quiet" or simplistic there is a strength, one that never needs to be explained .. it is just there. . Regardless I just love it .. :). Hope any of that makes sense.

'Little chapel' LARGE On Black

One more photo taken in Beesel NL during my cyclingtour last Thursday October 5...
You can see the road to this little chapel HERE
The village of Temple was once the headquarters of the Knights Templar in Scotland from whom it takes its name, previously being known as Balantrodoch. The land was granted to the Templars by king David I in 1153 and held by them until the order was supressed in 1312.
The ruins of the old parish church date from the early 14th century.
I originally spotted this abandoned chapel during one of my travels back in 2021. It appeared that it was in the process of being demolished, as the surrounding buildings were being torn down and the grounds were full of construction equipment. I passed by again in 2022 and was happy to see that it was still standing! Nature has healed itself surrounding the church, making a much more pleasant view. Hopefully someone will restore and save this church in the near future.
________
Established in 1881, this chapel was the first African American Methodist Church in Trenton. It was built on land donated by Mr. Fennell Sebree. Mr. Sebree was a prominent white businessman who was local to the area.
The church flourished during the 1900s. A book detailing the history of Todd County says that the church sponsored Easter services, had Sunday School classes and two choirs (junior and senior). The choir was recognized at one point in the Hopkinsville district for their outstanding performances. A pastorium was added during the early 1950s and the chapel interior was remodeled in the 1970s. Several members held leadership positions in the church for over fifty years.
The church has been closed for about ten or fifteen years now.

This chapel sits just south of Shoals, Indiana in Lost River Township. The original chapel was built in 1862. The chapel would later be rebuilt in 1933 after the original structure started to fail.
If you are interested in the history of this church, there is a really nice write-up on INGenWeb. It has a detailed history of the church, including how the bell was obtained and paid for by an ice cream supper held on independence day in 1905.

The Basilica and Convent of San Francisco, is a Catholic basilica that stands in the middle of the historic center of Quito. The structure is the largest architectural complex within the historic centers of all of South America. San Francisco is considered a jewel of continental architecture for its mixture of different styles combined throughout more than 150 years of construction. Inside the church there are more than 3,500 works of colonial art, of multiple artistic manifestations and varied techniques, especially those corresponding to the Colonial Quito School of Art, which was born precisely in this place.

Per the University of Northwestern website... The construction of the Island Chapel was supported by heiress Wilhelmine Coolbaugh. In fact, the benefactress was the driving force behind the chapel's creation. Coolbaugh began corresponding with Archbishop Austin Dowling when the construction of the Annunciation Chapel and Nazareth Hall was underway. She envisioned the creation of another smaller shrine chapel on the island and set up a fund to pay for the costs.
The first landscape plan published by Morell and Nichols in June 1923 shows a small square pavilion at the center of the island. Architects Maginnis and Walsh developed plans in early 1925. Maginnis characterized the building as a "little Gothic scheme" with a "naïve quality in architecture of this scale." Coolbaugh approved of the design, requesting also to be buried beneath the chapel. Archbishop Dowling approved of her wish and Maginnis and Walsh also designed the tomb, which was placed into the center of the marble floor.
Building Specifications
The construction contract was awarded to Foley Brothers. The building specifications called for a concrete foundation; a granite base from the foundation to the top of the water table; double walls of limestone, each wall six inches thick with two inches of air space between the walls; and shingle roof tiles over wood framing. The roof cresting and cross are formed of a composite material called Hoyt Hardlead.
The chapel was completed during the summer of 1926 at a total cost of about $35,000. The carved Latin inscription on the inside wall above the door acknowledges Coolbaugh's donation. The inscription is translated as "Wilhelmine Frances Coolbaugh, A Devoted Daughter, Cared Enough to Erect This Shrine of the Most Sweet Mother of God."
After the sale of Nazareth Hall to University of Northwestern in 1970, the triptych, the stained-glass windows, and the tower statue of the Madonna and Child were removed. Coolbaugh's remains, originally buried beneath the chapel in 1933, were also removed for re-interment to Mendota Heights, Minn. The Island Chapel is now closed and used for storage of building artifacts from Nazareth Hall.

Another view of the Royal Chapel, looking towards the altar this time.
The Royal Chapel was built during the 18th century and it is the parish church for the members of the Royal Parish. The church is situated in the east half of the southern row of the palace. It is as wide as the building and two and a half stories high. The entrance of the church is in the South Portal (or Arch). Service is held every Sunday and holy day, and the Royal Family use the church for ceremonies. Before the old Tre Kronor castle burned down, the Royal Chapel was in the northern row, some benches and silver decorations from the old church are still preserved in the chapel. After fire in 1697, when Tessin planned the new palace, the Royal Chapel and the Hall of State were placed in the southern row and these, including the grand stairs, occupies the first and second floor. The chapel represented the divine power and the hall the worldly, or the king's, power. (Wikipedia)
