Kerry Park

At Kerry Park in Seattle, there is a sculpture called, Changing Form. The lower part of the sculpture is a square with circles on each side. Through three of the openings of the sculpture, I tried to capture two of Seattle's iconic landmarks, the Space Needle and Mt. Rainier.

I just bought my first manfrotto tripod and Sunday was the only time I've used it. After taking the previous shot I figured that I'd better take one from a position that I've never been able to before. I only had a little travel/backpacking tripod before and it's only about 5 feet max. I used to set it on top of a trash can to get shots like this but it was very limited. I'm looking forward to getting shots all over Seattle from over the tops of railings I've never been able to clear before.

Merry Christmas!

We had ourselves a bit of a white Christmas when it decided to snow a little today. I took this up at Kerry Park just as the snow was turning into drizzle. I set my tripod on the roof of my car and got everything set up and then, amazingly, this couple walked up and just happened to stand in the exact perfect spot for a few seconds. It's a Christmas miracle!

Since Kerry Park was essentially deserted by this point in the sunrise, I played around with framing the skyline through the Changing Form sculpture (by Doris Chase).

The sculpture is actually called Changing Form.

Finding a fresh perspective of famous landmarks like the Space Needle is getting harder and harder, especially from such well travelled hotspots as this, but I still keep trying.

I can't believe how clear it was this morning. I don't think I've ever seen as many stars visible over the city. View this large and see for yourself. I regret not taking a shot with the aperture wide open so they'd be even more visible. Live and learn.

Mural "Continuous City", Lodz, Poland

Author Sebastian Bozek. The point of reference was the city understood as a continuous, fluid structure, changing form, neither open nor closed, without beginning or end. The architectural structure of Łódź, which is currently undergoing an intensive process of transformation, was also an inspiration.

First shot with my new lens. I've always wanted a fisheye and I finally broke down and bought one. I can't wait to get out and shoot some more with it! The TV people had most of their shit put away when I was leaving so I hand held this shot on my way back to my car. I'm standing at the base of the brick steps and my toes are just out of the frame.

It was a cold clear morning and I had the park all to myself. That is, until the news van pulled up and two guys got out and started setting up all their gear directly in front of me.

An old shot I never posted. I haven't taken any pictures for a while but Robin and I are flying to New York city tonight and I hope to get some cool pictures there. Check back in a week or so.

Changes are the spice of life. Moving home to the south in a week and leaving this beautiful city. Bittersweet, mostly sweet. I love Seattle: The art, the scene, the space needle, the million neat things to see, the sound, the islands, the mountains east and west. BUT I very much dislike the rain and distance to my family. And I'm just a southern girl that needs to go home!

One last shot from Sunday morning. Maybe not the best, but it's been a long time since I've been to Kerry Park so it's fun to work on skyline photos again.

It was very nice to meet Dene’ Miles, Vinny, and Thorsten Scheuermann this morning. I've been following their work for a long time and I recommend checking out their photostreams.

Another shot taken on the morning of February 10th. Doris Chase's piece really allows you to frame the city and Mt. Rainier nicely. Having the park to myself allowed me to get it just right without worrying about people walking into the shot.

I took this shot back in 2008 and have come back a couple of times but the sky has never been as dramatic as back in 2008, so I haven't posted those shots. This one here came out decent, same framing than the one in 2008 but with the needle at the right hand opening of the sculpture. I also fired my camera strobe at the sculpture to bring more depth to it.

After months of telling myself I need to walk to Kerry Park in the morning to shoot the sunrise before work, I finally convinced myself to get up early to do so. Aside from the frigid temperatures I wasn't disappointed in my decision. I had the entire park to myself, except for the occasional jogger passing bye.

Kerry Park is defiantly one of the most photographed locations in Seattle, and as such shots like these often feel tired and unoriginal. Yet there is a reason people keep coming back, I mean look at this view. Can you really ever tire of it?
