Climate Corporate Governance for Financial Institutions - Building resilience to climate change risk
During the past decade, with extreme weather causing hundreds of USD billions of
losses per year and the changing climate intensifying the adverse effects of wasteful
practices, environmental considerations have overtaken economic concerns as the
main sources of global risk, according to the World Economic Forum.
Financial regulators and the European Union are responding with recommendations
and guidance on the disclosure of climate-related financial risks to help integrate
sustainability into investor portfolio management. Credit rating agencies are
developing new ways to anticipate how climate-related risks could impact businesses
and financial institutions.
But is this enough?
To assess whether the financial sector is adequately equipped, the EBRD is brought
together representatives from financial institutions to share their practical experience
of the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of climate-related risk management.
The event discuseed ways to achieve an effective investor-led climate response
via climate corporate governance, standards-based climate finance, climate risk
management, climate-related capital market products.
Hello,
My name is Alejandra and I am from South Florida, but go to school in NYC
(hence the two locations in the subject!)
There are few things that I care more about than this movement, which is why
I travelled close to 800 miles solely by bike as a Climate Summer rider, a
trip that ended only a few days ago. I wish, more than anything, that I
could be a part of the Tar Sands Action sit-ins, but I am only a Resident of
the United States and wish to become a Citizen. Thus, I cannot risk being
arrested and having my citizenship denied. I am incredibly thankful for
those who are risking arrest to fight for a better future, and who are in
turn representing those of us who want to, but are unable to.
Thank you so much for passing this along!
In solidarity and with hopes for the better future that we all deserve,
Ale Dominguez

Saturday was another beautiful, slow drizzle and rain day at Yosemite National Park. I was crouched down to shoot these splendid Dogwoods, when I turned around and saw the road framed nicely.

Change Islands is an outport community in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The community spans two small islands of the same name which lie off the northeast coast of the island of Newfoundland between Notre Dame Bay and the Labrador Sea. The community of Change Islands is located primarily on the larger South Island, today hosting approximately 200 residents, though most of the public buildings are on the North Island.
Well a few post ago I said I had probably shot my last spring wildflower photo. Well this weekend the Indian Blankets had pretty much taken over the same fields I had shot Bluebonnets a few weeks ago. It is as if Mother Nature pulled the stage curtains closed and reopened them for Act II. At the end I will applaud loudly for the show she put on this spring. To see what this field looked like a few weeks ago in act I you can view my "Field of Blue" Photo.
Speaking of performances, I do want to recognize some good friends of mine who are out showcasing a really great documentary film. As my readers and viewers stop to look at these photos and comment on how much they like them take a quick few seconds to imagine what your life would be like if you were blind. How would you "see" the world? This is the exact question my Friends Keith Maitland ( director ) and Patrick Floyd ( producer ) sat out to explore in a ground breaking documentary called the Eyes of Me Look for this to be on PBS soon as it was recently picked up by Independent Lens. The Eyes of Me has received critical acclaim at festivals such as SXSW and today Keith and Patrick arrived in Little Rock for the Little Rock Film Festival. So if you are in the area this movie is worth seeing. You can also follow the progress of this film on twitter or facebook. Great Job Keith and Patrick and good luck at the Little Rock Film Festival! <

my original (and rejected) idea for the change project.
the concept here is shedding the skin, letting go of your old self -it's a change that requires effort and some pain and releases a great deal of new energy :-)
although i'm not satisfied with the end result i kinda like it and want to know what you people think
*check the end result of the change project here - this one ended up being included to my surprise :-O

In Dominican Republic hundreds of people in white gathered to raise their
voices and commitment to the climate crisis. The message conveyed was the
threat of sea level rise to an island nation as Dominican Republic and was
part of one of the 350 EARTH events happening worldwide, a week before the
climate negotiations. This day, November 21st will always be remembered as
the day that Dominicans came together for Planet Earth, our only home.

"Mission Statement for a (Photo) Project: Having a child is hard. Not only in the pure, physical responsibility, but also psychologically. Axioms and basic truths premised upon experience are upended in an instant. All of life is reopened for questioning, for re-exploration, and its suddenness is breathtaking in its brutality.
And as you are breaking down and rebuilding, so the familiar around you mutates into something new. What was large is now small, closed, constricted. And what was open and free is now daunting and threatening and filled with danger and potential menace at worst, inconvenience at best.
This is not about claustrophobia or agoraphobia per-se. This is rather concerned with the fluidity of my own interpretation of familiar spaces - of my life - when assaulted from outside by this new permanent resident within it."
I began this abandoned project following the birth of my daughter in 2011. The above was my mission statement to come to terms with what, at the time, was so overwhelming. I rediscovered it today following a visit to The Photographers' Gallery's exhibition "Home Truths" concerning women's sense of identity following birth. I was trying to do the same thing from a father's perspective...
One of the last weekends to see the Aspen change colors. What a beautiful sight. Pictures don't do it justice. Enjoy!

Killing the negative
Finding the faith isn't
As much as I'd like it to be
Follow the path set by
Somebody else's hand
Craving addiction and
Living in fear of me
Bent on destruction I
Have no intention
Black into day into
Dark into Night I go
Blaming myself like I
I'm in control of it
I Turn it around for a
Just for the fun of it
Back to the start I go
I Wish I had learned from you
But I don't think that I can change
I've been feeling this way for so long now
And this feeling inside still remains
I aint gonna change
Aint gonna change
I watched you change
Into a fly
I looked away
You were on fire
I watched a change in you
It's like you never had wings
Now you feel so alive
I've watched you change

My dad changing a tire on his 1922 Dodge Business Coupe. He carried a leather case with a large set of tools. This was probably taken before I was born, but it was the first car I drove. The spare looks to be a new Goodyear.
As I recall, these tires were 32 x 3+. The car had only rear wheel brakes. I remember Dad telling me some tires lasted onlty 5,000 miles.

There were a lot of cops everywhere here. Which, I guess isn't that strange considering just days before, it was the terror attack and the city was on high alert.
So I decided to make some more camera changes. Selling the 50Ds, replacing them with (eventually) a pair of 1D MkIIIs, with a 1D MkIIN backup
The first MkIII arrived today, and I'm enjoying it a lot. The 1Ds just feel better in my hands than the camera+grip combos I've been using.
I'm also selling my last EF-S lens, so all of my lenses will be usable on APS-H and full frame cameras.
My new 12-24 Sigma also showed up (12-24 on full-frame, no less), so I'll now have a 12-24, a 24 1.4, a 24-105, a 70-200 and 1.4x and 2x converters, plus a walkaround 28-300.
Eventually, I might finally be done buying camera gear. I doubt it, but it's possible. :)
