Srey Our, called 'Ladyboy' - "I always wanted to be a girl. Even when I was tiny I played with other girls and grew my hair long. I left home when I was 17 to become the housemaid for a family where I lived for 10 years. My chance came to sing with a band and I never looked back. It was the best time - many boyfriends, lots of fun and no one knew anything about AIDS. We never had any reason to use condoms..

"Now many of us have become sick; there's no one else to look after us as most of our friends have died. Sure, we feel isolated, but we always have been isolated by Cambodian society..

"Since catching AIDS I'm afraid to have sex and I'm too tired; I sleep a lot or listen to records at home. Many gay people in Cambodia thought that HIV infection only comes from men sleeping with women. Everyone should know that men with men can infect the same way!".

Climate Corporate Governance for Financial Institutions - Building resilience to climate change risk

During the past decade, with extreme weather causing hundreds of USD billions of

losses per year and the changing climate intensifying the adverse effects of wasteful

practices, environmental considerations have overtaken economic concerns as the

main sources of global risk, according to the World Economic Forum.

Financial regulators and the European Union are responding with recommendations

and guidance on the disclosure of climate-related financial risks to help integrate

sustainability into investor portfolio management. Credit rating agencies are

developing new ways to anticipate how climate-related risks could impact businesses

and financial institutions.

But is this enough?

To assess whether the financial sector is adequately equipped, the EBRD is brought

together representatives from financial institutions to share their practical experience

of the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of climate-related risk management.

The event discuseed ways to achieve an effective investor-led climate response

via climate corporate governance, standards-based climate finance, climate risk

management, climate-related capital market products.

Change....

Don't feel the suns comin' out today

its staying in, its gonna find another way.

As I sit here in this misery, I don't

think I'll ever see the sun from here.

And oh as I fade away,

they'll all look at me and say, and they'll say,

Hey look at him! I'll never live that way.

But that's okay

they're just afraid to change.

When you feel your life ain't worth living

you've got to stand up and

take a look around you then a look way up to the sky.

And when your deepest thoughts are broken,

keep on dreaming boy, cause when you stop dreamin' it's time to die.

And as we all play parts of tomorrow,

Some ways will work and other ways we'll play.

But I know we all can't stay here forever,

so I want to write my words on the face of today.

and then they'll paint it

And oh as I fade away,

they'll all look at me and they'll say,

Hey look at him and where he is these days.

When life is hard, you have to change.

Dear Water-Protectors and friends,

As organizer of the NoDAPL Solidarity Event in Vienna I am reaching out to you to report about the event and to send you some pictures of it (attached in the appendix) …here the Facebook event where you find even more pics and videos: www.facebook.com/events/1782578492009468/

Description:

On November 15th from 5 to 7.30pm more than 60 people gathered in front of the US Consulate in Vienna at Theodor-Herzl Platz. Via speakerboxes and microphone I gave a short introduction about the issues at stake for indigenous peoples when faced with the invasive and ignorant (neocolonial) character of extractive industry enterprises, (as can be seen in ND by them building through holy lands and threatening major water sources without free prior consent or consult with people affected according to the UNDRIP) and appealed to the US to engage critically with their history of state formation based on genocide and suppression of Indigenous Peoples (IP) and their cultures and to #HonotTheTreaties and respecting IP sovereign rights for self-determination in their doings and beings. Also I pointed at the numerous negative environmental Impacts of the Pipeline, (also referring to the missing Environmental Impact Assessment of the pipeline) and emphasized how the concept of interrelatedness of all existence found in indigenous ontologies can help us as humans to see beyond the borders of our socialized selves and reestablish a respectful and harmonious relational dynamic with the life-giving nature around us - #noDAPL because #WaterIsLife.

Many others took also the chance to speak about the injustices, police brutality and human rights violations happening in ND, including Peter Schwarzbauer, a spokesman of Arbeitskreis Indianer Nordamerikas (AKIN - a human rights watch specializing on indigenous proples’ struggles, challenges and concerns), Michael Fenz, a representative of the austrian „Idle no more“ Support Group and Roy E. Pete, a Navajo, who also performed a prayer song for the Water-Protectors at the construction sites in ND.

We repeatedly chanted the paroles:

- You can’t drink oil, keep it in the soil

- Water Is Life

- No triumphs for Trump in Standing Rock

Also a lifestream was filmed, lots of pictures were taken and posted on Facebook during or after the event the next day under the following hashtags:

Apart from that there was a lot of drumming, singing and discussion going on as people got together, interconnecting and talking about shared values and the struggle.

Also WienTV.org a Viennese TV channel made, posted and screened a 7 minute video of the event. Here a link to watch it (it’s in german):

I'm sure people will get mixed feelings on this picture but to be honest, I find it to be a happy one. I've had this fake rose and fake rose petals forever and haven't used them for anything so I figured why not. I'm sitting on a scale and it's a representation of a change in my life. For ONCE I have been gaining weight and I couldn't be any happier. Yes, it probably sounds weird to be happy about that but I'm looking more healthy and happy. I feel like I shouldn't have a thing to worry about anymore.

(not a very clear shot, the hares are skittish these days and don't hold still for a moment...)

Even the wildlife are in the throes of changing seasons. The snowshoe hares (Lepus americanus) cannot hide anymore, as their fur is changing to winter white in advance of their surroundings.

It's a hard time of year for them because they are so easily seen, and because of their great abundance this year.

Owls, foxes and other predator populations have also grown in direct response to the hare 'boom', and are taking a great toll on the hares.

Modern Dance: Stories from Jim & Joe, Choreographed by Pamela Kuntz

A collaborative dance/theatre piece, “Stories from Jim and Jo” is an original work that explores the medical complications of Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis. Under the direction of storyteller/choreographer Pam Kuntz, WWU Dance faculty and New York theatre artist Ian Bivins, two Bellingham community members – Jim Lortz and Jo Pullen – share their stories about living with these debilitating diseases.

"Jim" is James Lortz, a longtime Bellingham resident and WWU Theatre faculty member. Lortz was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease two years ago. Part of the performance explores his journey with the disease, from diagnosis to daily discoveries of change.

"Jo" is Jo Pullen, a community activist volunteering with the MS community as a self help group leader, lobbyist and advocate for affordable, accessible health care for all. She was diagnosed with MS 30 years ago and is a retired social worker. For her, this is an excellent opportunity to talk about disabilities with humor and sensitivity.

Performing with Kuntz, Lortz and Pullen is Ian Bivins, a company member with the New York based theatre company MargolisBrown ADAPTORS CO. Bivins is a WWU alum and returns to Bellingham to work with Kuntz in creating this piece alongside his former professor Jim Lortz.

Gov. Inslee signing a joint declaration with UK government to strengthen partnership in combatting climate change

A quarter million people joined the Climate Action March around the world on Sep. 8, 2018, asking for immediate action to reduce climate change.

In San Francisco, thousands of activists created one the largest street murals ever made, covering five blocks of city streets with dozens of colorful scenes illustrating possible solutions to global warming, all around the City Hall plaza.

Each mural was designed by a different community group, and painted on the ground in large 35-feet wide circles, with washable tempera paint. Murals featured in this photo set were created by the Sierra Club ("Keep close to Nature's heart"), environmental students at UC Berkeley (“Fiat Lux”) and SFUSD (“Write History Wisely”).

Everyone was welcome to join and it was a sight to behold! Participants ranged from veteran environmentalists to young activists, with very diverse backgrounds, coming together from all across California and beyond. We used this creative art form to demand that our leaders act now to cut back on fossil fuels and switch over to renewable energy, before it’s too late.

High school students from ‘Generation: Our Climate’ participated actively in this event, and were interviewed by both KQED and KPFA. I volunteer with their group and am inspired by their knowledge and passion. I really enjoy our collaboration, which bridges the gap between generations that are too often separated into different silos.

The Climate March was also a great opportunity to reconnect with many of my activist friends, including Marilyn, Wayne and the Freedom Singers. We posed together in front of a colorful float of Mayahuel, the Aztec goddess of fertility, created by Latino activists in the wood shop of a Mission high school.

Kudos to art director David Solnit and team at 350.org for guiding the creation of these murals and many of the signs for this march -- inspiring a diverse community of citizens of all ages. Many thanks to all who marched, painted, chanted, organized and spoke up for a better world at the Climate Marches around the world. This wonderful blend of art, music and activism helped engage more people to fight for climate justice. Let there be light!

With the air temperature on the rise and leaf and flower buds starting to open, it is finally starting to feel like Spring. B and I just couldn’t spend the day inside. With car windows down and the smell of ocean breeze filling the car we took the road less traveled, complete with the old wooden toll bridge, on our way out to lunch.

Cousins' 4 TD passes lead Skins past eliminated Bills 35-25

LANDOVER, Md. (AP) As Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder paced nearby, 20 or so of his team's players gathered in the trainer's area off the locker room Sunday, delighted by their own just-completed victory and waiting to find out exactly how big a deal it was.

Left tackle Trent Williams and other Redskins watched the closing seconds of their NFC East rival New York Giants' loss on TV, letting loose a loud celebration - raised arms, fist pumps, yells of ''Yes!'' - at the end. After last-place finishes in six of the last seven years, Washington is closing in on clinching a playoff berth.

Inspiring a soundtrack of ''You like that!'' chants in the stands, Kirk Cousins equaled his career high with four touchdown passes and ran 13 yards for another score, helping the Redskins win consecutive games for the first time in more than a year and stay atop the division standings by beating the Buffalo Bills 35-25.

''We had a lot on our hands. Everybody said we couldn't win back-to-back games,'' said receiver DeSean Jackson, who turned a short throw from Cousins into a 77-yard TD. ''So this was the first time in a long time we were able to get accomplished what we wanted to get accomplished.''

The Redskins (7-7) can secure a spot in the postseason by winning next Saturday night at the Philadelphia Eagles,

''We still have a dogfight in front of us. And we can't walk before we crawl, put it like that,'' Williams said. ''We've got to focus on the Eagles.''

The Bills (6-8) are now assured of missing the playoffs for the 16th year in a row, the longest active drought in the NFL.

''Did it go according to plan? No, not this year,'' said Rex Ryan, in his first season as Buffalo's coach.

Said defensive end Mario Williams: ''Of course there's going to be changes. That's obvious. You just wait and see if your number is called, that's all.''

Making Ryan's defense look inept, and aided by a key fourth-down encroachment penalty, the Redskins scored TDs on each of their first three possessions of a game for the first time since September 1999, grabbing a 21-0 lead midway through the second quarter.

Even when Washington made a potentially bad mistake of its own - rookie returner Jamison Crowder fumbled a punt near midfield - Buffalo couldn't take advantage. The Bills drove all the way to Washington's 1, but running back LeSean McCoy got stuffed twice, before Tyrod Taylor overthrew Sammy Watkins by a ton in the end zone on fourth down.

''That was a huge stop,'' Redskins coach Jay Gruden said.

After Buffalo made it 28-17 with a two-play, 85-yard drive - capped by the first of Taylor's two TD passes to Watkins - the Redskins responded with a 13-play, 80-yard drive. That ended with Cousins' 5-yard TD toss to Pierre Garcon early in the fourth quarter.

Fans repeatedly responded to touchdowns with full-throated serenades of ''You like that!'' - a reference to what Cousins screamed as he trotted to the locker room after a comeback victory earlier this season.

''I had to turn my headsets up a little bit,'' Gruden said. ''I couldn't hear play calls and all that stuff.''

Cousins hit tight end Jordan Reed for a pair of scores in the first half. Jackson spun away from defensive back Corey Graham for his long score in the third quarter.

''I never thought he was Jerry Rice,'' Ryan said about Jackson. ''But I guess I was wrong.''

Cousins completed his first nine passes and finished 22 for 28 for 319 yards and no interceptions. It was his sixth 300-yard passing day of the season, a franchise record. He equaled another club mark, set way back in 1967 by Hall of Famer Sonny Jurgensen, by starting the season with at least one TD throw in 14 straight games.

''He's definitely gotten better,'' Trent Williams said. ''We had faith in him the whole time. But he continues to grow and he's playing lights-out.''
