The changeable hawk-eagle or crested hawk-eagle (Nisaetus cirrhatus) is a large bird of prey species of the family Accipitridae. More informal or antiquated English common names include the marsh hawk-eagle or Indian crested hawk-eagle. It is a member of the booted eagle subfamily, with signature feathers, absent in tropical raptors from outside this subfamily, covering the tarsus.

Changeable hawk-eagles breed in the Indian subcontinent, mainly in India and Sri Lanka, and from the southeast rim of the Himalaya across Southeast Asia to Indonesia and the Philippines. This is a bird occurring singly (outside mating season) in open woodland, although island forms prefer a higher tree density. It builds a stick nest in a tree and lays a single egg.

Comanche changeable hardy water lily has variegated leaves and is very free flowering. The blossoms open pale yellow and change to pale orange by the third day.

it will be at the shelf of the pond for protection in the winter.

Clear skies with the odd fluffy white cloud when I left Ogwen.

25 minutes later and I'd had warm sunshine, a slight breeze that turned into a squall, pelting hail, rain then sleet then snow, thick cloud and then back to warm sunshine with barely a breath of wind and clear skies all within the next 30 minutes.

A large majestic raptor commonly found around forest areas. This was sighted deep in the forest area next to a canal where many wild animals are often sighted - we weren't lucky though. This Hawk Eagle quietly sits on tall perches inside the trees and surveys the area for prey such as small birds, snakes, monitor Lizards, quails, Chameleons, squirrels etc.. The bird unlike other raptors that survey while flying, perches for long hours, sights a prey and waits for opportunity to dive and catch.

During the trip to a Forest Reserve the past few days, we sighted several of these, but rarely did we get any photos. The forest was lush and had many wild animals, so we couldn't venture around a bit.

Many thanks in advance for your views / comments. Much appreciated.

Today we've seen dark clouds, heavy showers, as well as spells of sunshine. The meadows full of buttercups contrasted nicely with the threatening sky in the nature reserve "Gemene Weidebeek" near Bruges.

It is called the changeable hawk-eagle due to its varied plumage on individual birds.

Found this majestic hawk-eagle on the bank of a small lake in the forest. We sighted it while driving when it was coming down on the monitor lizard for the kill. By the time we stopped and got the cameras ready, it killed the Lizard and soon flew away.

Suspect it was during the nesting time and that is why the Lizard wasn't eaten on the spot, but carried elsewhere. Within 5 minutes, it was back on the hunt again - so think it maybe nesting. (It could have dropped the lizard, but that seemed unlikely since it had no competition in the sky at the time).

Up above Hartsop, was it going to be sun or snow..

……A changeable sky throughout the visit this day and I thought this one lent itself to a mono conversion, taken on my phone in Apple RAW & edited to B&W in Lightroom. Once again very pleased with the phones performance here at Kenilworth. Alan:-) ……..

Very changeable weather conditions this morning but when it all comes together it can produce a punchy image.

With the news 4M27 had DRS 88010 'Aurora' on the point in its 'Keeping it Cool' livery I tried a new angle as it fast approached Haydock Branch Junction and was rewarded.

April is a time of such changeable weather and this year, rain is coming often to my garden accompanied by mist. But rain is not dampening my Spring Fever and whenever the sun peeks through, it is time for an instant celebration. I wish all my Flickr friends a very Happy Easter & Spring :)

On the morning of the tenth day I spent a few hours in Alesund. A lovely little university town with great Jugendstil architecture. The Jugendstil housing was created after a big fire that devastated most of the town in 1904.

And then I went into the direction of Geiranger. Weather predictions were hopeful for the end of the day, and I wanted to be there just in case :). The results I will show later!

Norway, a stunningly beautiful country. Around every corner a chance for a scenic image, forcing me from time to time to stop every kilometer to get out of my car, sometimes with screeching brakes, and sometimes forcing me to curse because there was no place to stop.

Lovely valleys, bare mountains and cold winds, snow packs, glaciers, beautiful lakes, and then there are the enchanting fjords that never stop to amaze. The most beautiful country of Europe, for me no doubt about that, with only one minor aspect, which is the weather. During my month of traveling I only had 4 really nice days, the rest of the time clouds, rain, and very changeable! Still no regret, and I will go back to make even more than the 3500 pictures that I took this time.

Another very active vacation that took me to the south west up to Trondheim in a sort of triangle between Oslo- trondheim and Bergen with the whole route visible here (www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153668247101759&set...).

An Infant Monkey! This was shot at a hillside temple overlooking a forest valley. The area is an amazing birding place and in winters usually teems with activity. The place is also infested with monkeys and this eagle and the Spot Bellied Eagle owl - both residents at that place - are thought to hunt the young ones.

Little did we expect to see it in action. The Eagle soon dived to catch a monkey, but was unsuccessful. It tried again and again multiple times, but wasn't successful. And soon flew away to a higher perch!

These are resident raptors in India found throughout the year. They are formidable hunters and target small birds, reptiles, mammals in the forests. The call too is quite easy to id and they are heard often in the forests in our state.

Thanks in advance for your views and feedback Much appreciated.

Shot at a hillside temple overlooking a forest valley - there were two Changeable Hawk-Eagles that day - this was the older one of the two. It perched here for a long time till there was sufficient light.

This Eagle then tried to find a meal and attacked an infant monkey multiple times. We could see the attack, but the view was obstructed by bushes and hence couldn't take a shot. After many unsuccessful attempts the Eagle gave up and moved to another higher perch on the hill behind us.

I started my trip to Nepal In Bardia national Park. I had read it was less touristic than Chitwan, but more a a less the same sort of park. In it there would be tigers, Rhinos, deer and all other sorts of animal species. The tigers I didn't see, but there were many bird species, and although I didn't carry my wildlife camera with me on this trip, I have a few nice shots from this trip!

One of the reasons for going in Spring to Nepal was Bardia. it is the best time to visit. The grass is still low and temperatures are bearable.
