The Chandler House and farm office was the center of the Chandler's 740 acres that they called Fairfield Plantation. After the Civil War the Chandlers and the farm fell on hard times. Eventually the property was acquired by the R. F. & P. railroad which destroyed the Chandler House but restored the Farm Office where General Jackson Died. Chandler St is very congested during pick up and drop off times at the school. Parents and children still cross the street in traffic to get to vehicles parked on the opposite side of the street. Congestion, however, slows traffic and makes this movement relatively safe. Improving conditions for traffic may increase hazards for children.
