Blue and orange chalks broken in half. It's Monday and I wanted something quick and easy.

Taken at Prestbury Hill, Gloucestershire.

Thank you to everybody that views, comments and for favouring my images. Always greatly appreciated.

The cliffs, c. 6 km long and up to 128 metres tall, are Denmark's highest, and support a unique set of natural habitats. Access to the narrow beach is via a flight of 500 steps from the parking area set within the beech forest behind the cliffs

not the best of light though -.-

On the way back to Wales on Wednesday I took a few hours at Rough Bank. I know I probably won't get too much time over the summer so with the weather having been warm, and some overcast conditions forecast for the afternoon, I thought I'd have a chance to find some fresh butterflies resting up when the sun wasn't shining. So glad I did. There'll be more to come.

Lots of these now on the wing, such a stunning species when freshly emerged :)

While walking from Birling Gap to Beachy head lighthouse, I spotted this small cave six feet up the cliff face. I had to have a look inside, as I'm irresistibly drawn to such places. It would be a great little niche to sit out a calm tide, but get battered in a big swell. Chalk Pie by Frank Zappa is perfect, a feast of chalk on this majestic coast.

This VW van is being used as a rolling chalk art template. It was parked at the chalk art festival at the Riverwoods Mall in Provo, Utah.

The River Gade, here close to Great Gaddesden, Hertfordshire, is one of the Chiltern's surviving chalk streams and of great importance for the drinking water supply in this region. Maintaining its health, avoiding (more) pollution, and preserving its beauty are issues very much discussed in the public. Public access to the river is very sketchy indeed as it flows mainly (as here) through private land. Fuji X-Pro1 plus pancake lens.

My annual butterfly hunt turned up a lot of butterflies this year which was great to see. As always the challenge remained to find some in photogenic positions - the background in particular. There are some amazing images to see on SM but, boy they are hard to get - certainly in my experience. Although the weather has been great for them, over a number of visits to this site, overnight temperatures remained high which meant they were active very quickly next morning and what seemed like a constant gentle breeze made sharp images a real challenge. I managed a few images I was happy with including this of a pair of roosting chalk hill blues, luckily in some uncluttered grasses directly in line with the rising sun.

A small lake (pond) adjacent to Chalk Creek in the Swatch Range of the Rocky Mountains. It's known to be a great fishing spot for trout.

Broken Arrow had its first fall festival with Chalk It Up, great weather and a fantastic turn out. There was a lot of art on the street.

The Chalk Creek flows from St Elmo down into the Arkansas River from the Sawatch Range, part of the Continental Divide in Colorado.

I happened to be here mid-day, and so the light was rather harsh, but I felt that it worked well for a black and white image.

Congrats on Explore!

This little beach at Chalk Pond NH is really cool - literally. It was -5°C with a cutting wind chill factor of -14°, it was probably a bit cold for a swim. Oh, and the ice on the pond is 8 inches thick too.

I took this image on the baltic-sea near Sassnitz. The image shows the chalk cliffs of Rügen. I used a ND-filter (3). Constructive criticism is welcome.
