The alps : probably the symbol of Switzerland !

Don't you find strange that when you have a photographic interest of any subject, the best solution is not to go directly to it, but to stay remote in order to have a global view ? For example, most of good pictures of castles are not taken from the castle, but precisely a few km away.

It's the same situation here : I am about 100 Km away of the Berner Oberland and the Alps, on another Mountain Range : the Jura. Between me and these mountains there's at least two lakes. However, it's probably one of the best place - better than the alps themselves - where you can see what alps really are : a chain crossing the horizon from east to west.

This place is absolutely beautiful in the morning when the air is clear. That day, it rained between me and the Alps, giving this graphic aspects for the clouds.

This is the head/face of a wooden sculpture that I had purchased in Costa Rica a few years ago. The facial expression was intriguing and mysterious to me. The artist had created several sculptures ranging from 15" tall to 6' tall. He used the wood from trees that had died or were cut down, to create the bodies and recyled bicycle chain rings for the hair...I fell in love with her. ;)

Happy Macro Monday.. to everyone out there today!

just having a little fun with a chain link fence... HFF

I had almost forgotten that I had got this necklace when I went hunting for an interesting chain for Macro Mondays. I remember admiring it in a large department store for several weeks before I had enough money to buy it back in the 1980’s. It’s not real gold or pearls but when you have had to save up to buy something you appreciate it a lot more.

1849 Chain Bridge and the 1905 St. Stephen's Basilica in the back.

This was taken near the Budapest Castle Hill Funicular. The funicular runs till 21:00 hours in winter and is €4 return (Feb 2018). You can also take the stairs and that will take about 15 min or so. The castle grounds are open 24/7. There was nobody around at the time I was there and you can take some nice shots of the bridges and the buildings on Pest.

At the time of its construction, it was regarded as one of the modern world's engineering wonders

This is one I never finished capturing all the data I wanted for because I switched scopes at my remote observatory before this was completed so I could capture several other targets that were starting to come into the late spring sky. Due to the seemingly endless rain of late, I decided to go ahead an process what I did have so far anyway.

I composed this image as a response to my ongoing self-challenge: "Construct a creative image of a common household object." This photograph is of water running down a Rain Chain, and splashing on a hard surface. I cropped and then heightened some colour, and flipped the image, but otherwise didn't edit the photograph.

Originating from Japan, rain chains are artistic alternatives to traditional downspouts. They are essentially a series of decorative cups or shapes chained together, which guide rainwater from roof gutters down to the ground. When it rains, the water cascades down the chain to create a beautiful waterfall effect.

Rain chains are an environmentally conscious choice for rainwater management. By guiding rainwater directly into the ground, a barrel or a garden, they reduce the amount of water that ends up in storm drains, lessening the strain on local water treatment facilities. As an added bonus, rain chains are often made from recycled materials and contribute to a circular economy and reduced environmental impact.

I have created a Flickr Album entitled "At Home Creatives" where a selection of similarly-themed photographs will be found. I invite you to visit and I hope you enjoy.

Small details to be find on the streets.

I used a 45mm lens from Olympus. This focal lens (equal to 90mm in a full frame system) and big aperture help to created a small deep of field.

Markarian's Chain

Markarian's Chain is a stretch of galaxies that forms part of the Virgo Cluster. When viewed from Earth, the galaxies lie along a smoothly curved line. It was named after the Armenian astrophysicist, Benjamin Markarian, who discovered their common motion in the early 1960s. Member galaxies include M84 (NGC 4374), M86 (NGC 4406), NGC 4477, NGC 4473, NGC 4461, NGC 4458, NGC 4438 and NGC 4435. Near the center there appear the pair of interacting galaxies NGC 4438 and NGC 4435, about 50 million light-years away, known to some as Markarian's Eyes.At least seven galaxies in the chain appear to move coherently, although others appear to be superposed by chance. Six of the points on the chain can be marked by galaxies. The other two points are pairs of galaxies
