Saw this little guy hanging off of a chain that held the side gate shut to a local cemetery. This cocoon is beautiful and I don't think the picture does it justice. This is the cocoon of a Monarch Butterfly.

Well, somehow I got it into my head to make Tula Pink's (free!) Anchors Away quilt pattern for Dylan as a birthday gift...I'm thinking way ahead of schedule, since his birthday is in the summer. Actually, I can definitely pinpoint the root cause: it's Mara's Anchors Away QAL!
I've already decided that I'm going to give it the custom long-arm quilting treatment; my first time ever:) I've decided what I want to do for the back, and it's going to be great. The problem is just that I want to get it all prepped for the long-armer ASAP, and it's bottlenecking all the other projects I want to work on!
I had thought about fusing the 2" squares to wash-away interfacing, but I was too lazy to get to the store, and I guess I was a little deterred by the talk about the interfacing being pricey on the Mario Bros. QAL discussion boards. I think I spent two weeknights cutting the squares, and then one Friday night chain-piecing the prints and getting as far along as I could (I got to row 5). So now, two weekends later, rows 1 to 5 are pieced. Before I dive into rows 6 and 7 (of course, the two with the most little squares), I'm going to take a break and at least make the quilt sandwich for my scrappy trips quilt...maybe even get it quilted!
So yes, that's where I've been, and that's why I haven't made progress on anything else!
