Today was my first day back to work after being sick all week. Blah. What can I say, it was work. I don't presume to think that the world revolves around me, but damn, I got there and it was like all hell had broken loose. I have realized that I am the connector that holds people together. And the little stuff that needs to get done, doesn't if I'm not there.
I also talked to my best friend the other day and she told me that they are planning on doing their son's baptism Nov. 14th. I am happy for them if that is what they want. I think it is more of what her hubby's mom want. But whatever. However, we have to go to Miami for the service, which is like 6 hours from here. Then she, so quietly, tells me that we will have to sit in for the mass service and that the baptism will be afterwards. Now you must understand that I haven't been to church in .........oh, I don't know, 15 or so years. All I can imagine is the priest talking about sinners and the next thing you know, I burst into flames. I actually think this is kinda funny, and had a good laugh about it.
I got home and decided to clean out the truck; it has been a while. You will never guess what I found in there. Three pairs of shoes ( sexy pair of sandals, pair of skippies, and a pair of tennies), pair of socks (clean), sweater, newspaper, 2 beer koozies, spoon, and a cheesecake recipe book. Who knew??

Despite being one of the most mineral rich states in India, with vast hoards of diamonds, Madhya Pradesh is one of the poorest with 40% of its population living in poverty. The state also has some of the worst development statistics in India. Of every 100,000 live births in Madhya Pradesh - 310 mothers will die, while 59 new-borns will die for every 1000 live births - one of the highest infant mortality rates in the country, and compares starkly with Kerala for example where 14 infants will die out of 1000 live births. Here's an example of how DOF can be manipulated: (1) the focal length of the lens (not an issue here, because it was only a standard lens); (2) the aperture (yes, shot wide open at f/2); and (3) the distance to the subject (yes, shot at the minimum focusing distance). As a result, the DOF is very narrow.

The Chain Bridge was the first permanent stone-bridge connecting Pest and Buda, and only the second permanent crossing on the whole length of the river Danube. Works were started in 1839 to the plans of English engineer William Tierney Clark, the construction being supervised by Scottish engineer Adam Clark, who later on went on to marry a Hungarian girl and settle down in Hungary.
Sadly, at the end of World War II, retreating German troops blew up all bridges of Budapest, including the Chain Bridge on 18 January 1945. The bridge was destroyed almost completely, only its pillars remained intact. The decision to rebuild it was made in the spring of 1947, with certain modifications.
The stone lions situated at both abutments date back to 1852. Fortunately they survived destruction in World War II.

The Concrete Heritage Museum is losing a long term storage room as the owners of the building would like to renovate it for a future purpose. Much of what we have in there has no real place in our museum so we would like to dispose of it. Offering it to other museums is part of the process, so we hope that some of it will find a home in nearby community museums. Part of it is shown in these pictures today and more will be added later.

Instruction #4 - an example of human ingenuity which would otherwise go unnoticed. This was a bit of a tricky one and I can't seem to find examples of the kind of genuine, impromptu problem solving ingenuity that I'd hoped to find in response to this instruction, the kind that I've seen in other, poorer parts of the world, where ingenuity is often borne out of necessity. So instead I've opted for a clever bit of mass produced engineering, the type which I still think is pretty ingenious and is largely unnoticed - gear cogs and a bicycle chain.
This well-known Moortown pub has been shut for a few months now, since around May 2007. For the last couple of years it was just The Bull, previously The Chained Bull, Harrogate Road, Leeds
It was knocked down on June 9 2008 to make way for expansion of the Marks and Spencers store next to it.
