The former Main Post Office was designed by the architect J. Crouwel Jr. in the style of the Amsterdam School. Construction started in 1919 and was completed in 1924. The hall of the building is impressive because of the high parabolic arches.
There are six bluestone statues in the hall. Five of these human figures represent the different parts of the world and they are accompanied by a corresponding animal, a sixth image is about trade and prosperity. The statues and ornaments are by Hendrik van den Eijnde. The two lions on the outside in front of the entrance are also his work. These were installed later and were initially not part of the design, but were made at the request of the people of Utrecht. The large clock in the hall was made by De Porceleyne Fles. The stained glass above the entrance is by Richard Roland Holst and represents the "Dutch Virgin in the garden of the provinces".
We have had a lot of fun and a good lunch with the Flickrbende. And some photography of course.

The theme of week 50 is Ceilings. So I was thinking of going to a building where they have a nice ceiling. But when I looked up, I thought I did have 2 lamps which were nice. It turned out best when the light was switched on!

The Indiana World War Memorial Plaza is an urban feature located in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States, originally built to honor the veterans of World War I.[3] The five-city-block plaza was conceived in 1919 as a location for the national headquarters of the American Legion and a memorial to the state's and nation's veterans. At the north end of the plaza is the American Legion Mall, which is the site of the administration buildings of the Legion, as well as a memorial cenotaph. South of that is the Veterans Memorial Plaza with its obelisk.
The centerpiece of the plaza is the Indiana World War Memorial, modeled after the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus. Within is a military museum, the Shrine Room, and an auditorium
Taken on my first ever Doors Open Toronto way back in 2004. This is the ceiling of a building called Commerce Court located in the financial district of Toronto.
There was some building work ongoing so the interior wasn't as photogenic as it might have been, but the ceiling was untouched and impressive.

The Palace of Flowers: A grand and highly ornamented reception room, the Phul Mahal was constructed by Abhay Singh, son of Ajit Singh, in the mid – 18th century. This elevated room is less accessible, and would not have been used for receiving outside visitors but for more restricted male assemblies. It was probably intended as a private audience hall, where the ruler could confer with his thakurs and ministers, and perform certain personal rituals, such as the celebration of birthdays. Being open to the breeze, the room could also have served for some leisure pursuits such as listening to music. The architectural style of the interior – with its balustered and fluted columns – is derived from the palaces of Shah Jehan; though the outer casing, with elaborate jaali work, is typical of this part of Rajasthan. The paintings of the columns and walls are original, but the ceiling and its cornice were repainted in the mid 19th century, in the reign of Takhat Singh: his portrait and those of his sons feature in the scheme.
