The ceiling frescoes of St. Katharina in Garching. The oldest parts of the church date to the 13th century, but most of the current structure was built in the 15th century. In the 18th century the interior was converted to the current Baroque style.

I am reposting one of my favorite shots, because it appeared in the Baltimore Sun today in the travel section as My Best Shot. I sent this in 8 months ago so I figured it was not going to be selected. What a pleasant surprise to see it featured today!
The first posting of this shot has my 2nd most views, 3rd most comments and 1st in favorites.

How about that ceiling? I managed to shoot it handheld, inside the chapterhouse of Sevilla Cathedral.

Dale Chihuly - Persian Ceiling
Dale Chihuly is an internationally recognized multi-media artist, most famous for his work with glass. He is renown for his ambitious, site-specific installations in public spaces as well as for exhibitions presented in museums and gardens worldwide.
Persian Ceiling is one of Chihuly’s most popular works. It consists of various series of works in a multitude of shapes, forms and vivid colours arranged in layers over plates of transparent glass. The ceiling creates a kaleidoscopic effect of infinite repetition, suggesting the magical space of a Persian carpet.
(note that you should perhaps lie down on the floor to fully appreciate its beauty) :-)

The nave has a stone vault.
The murals are remarkable. Those of the choir vault present scenes that tell the public life of Jesus and the life of the Virgin Mary. Those of the southern brace describe "hell and its devils" or "the dance of death", reminding us that we are all equal in the face of death.
