Ellis island ceiling. It is said that almost half of all Americans today can trace their ancestory to someone who passed through Ellis Island! And while waiting on line if they looked up then this is what they saw!

Lille Cathedral, the Basilica of Notre Dame de la Treille (French: Basilique-cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-la-Treille de Lille), is a Roman Catholic cathedral and basilica, and a national monument of France, located in the city of Lille.
It has been the seat of the Bishop of Lille since the creation of the diocese in 1913, although construction of the church of Notre Dame de la Treille began in 1854. The church takes its name from a 12th-century statue of the Virgin Mary.

The central section is composed of a 30 metres high ogive covered with 110 sheets of white marble 28 millimetres thick, and supported by a metal structure. From the inside, this translucent veil reveals a surprising orange-pink colour. At the top, the glass rose window based on the theme of the Resurrection is the work of the painter Ladislas Kijno. The iron doorway is by the Jewish sculptor Georges Jeanclos.

I kind of like this ceiling, although this odd industrial look doesn't really fit with the tradition of other large, old train stations, which often have very high and intricately decorated ceilings. The most famous one is at NY's Grand Central Terminal, where there's a sweeping arched ceiling painted blue with the constellations on it. Apparently I don't have a picture adequately showing that ceiling though, so I'll add some pictures of other fancy station ceilings for comparison.
The tiles are missing from the rot that has taken place in the mall. If the roof isn't well maintained, the mall will have buckets throughout it. It must be cheaper to keep filling buckets than to repair the roof leaks, and I know personally storage totes cost a lot! I'm sad that the rest of the mall was demolished and we can't see how well the ceiling in the food court and center court would have held up over the years.

No, it's not literally chocolate. I just looked at the shot and thought, "wow, that's really beautiful...it looks like gourmet chocolate." I like the lights and their reflections in the ceiling. I also like the half-people in the shot (however, I have a feeling that many won't like that they are cut in half...oh well, I don't mind. I think that they add a feeling of fellowshp to the shot). Sometimes I look at the world in a bit of a strange way.

No credit to me for this shot. I did nothing but record the wonderful work of Dale Chihuly - absolutely no editing except putting in a frame to match my stream. This is an outcut of an amazing ceiling at the De Young Museum. Sure adds some color to my collection.
