My 2024 guitar lottery drawing has run full-circle, and so I start over with a random drawing of guitars to feature. It's never a bad thing to pick up this beauty...

I told myself that I was not going to post pictures of just playing guitar this year, without also posting a video of what I was playing. I'm going to try and hold myself to that!

This was not my planned shot or guitar for the day… Someone very close to me started chemotherapy treatments today, and I found myself to be an emotional wreck throughout the day.

Whenever I tried to pray, the words just got lost- utterly lost. I find in times like this that if I pick up a guitar, somehow the words come out, and that is exactly what happened today.

I promise it is not intentional, but I always seem to injure myself right where I need to connect skin to string…!

I think one of the hardest parts of grief is when there's the absence of closure, because you have to make it up on your own and it's mostly if not all one-sided. Grief comes in waves, and sometimes that wave comes back months or years after the fact. I've found the losses without closures hit differently than others... not always harder or worse- just very differently.

That has been my path the last several days, and having outlets for that is always good.

Yesterday brought news of the passing of a friend I used to work with in the San Antonio for my company. He was probably one of the kindest people I'd ever had the pleasure of working with, and his wife was someone I had mentored at one point here int he same organization. My friend, you will be missed, and we are all grieving your loss...

"There is a river that washes you clean

There is a tree that marks the places you've been

Blood that was spilled, although not your own,

For all of your tears, are the wages for things you have done"

Monday morning brought a sudden and unexpected team meeting, where we learned one of our teammates passed away suddenly over the weekend. We were in shock, and we canceled all meetings for the day.

My friend had just lost his daughter in the Fall from a tragic car accident. I cannot even begin to believe, accept, or understand this tradjedy, but I will travel to be there for his family.

If you're a person or prayer or even of just a kind heart- I could use some thoughts because this isn't one I want to believe or accept.

Baby steps are big steps when it comes to recovery, and it feels nice to be able to thumb around more and more on the guitar.

I have missed playing on Draco while being away, but the second I pick him up- it's just like coming home to a long lost friend.

Every guitar holds a special connection to some degree: where I got it, how I got it, memories performing with it, associations I have, etc. But guitars some really stand out more than others, and this is one that definitely stands out to me.

I remember this was the first high-end guitar I purchased, and man.... I worked HARD to get her. I have so many memories performing and playing with this guitar, and above all I remember this was the guitar I played at my sister's wake when she passed away.

I'm trying to cycle through my guitars in my 365 journey this year, and when this one came up in my random selection today... I felt a different sense of joy because I just have a different connection with her.

A great way to end the week is with a good guitar jam. As of Monday I will be reporting to my old boss in a new role, but indirectly on the same team. What better way to end and begin than with music?!?

I had a few musical goals this year, and did not accomplish them… not even one was completed. But several were started, so that just means I can finish them in 2024, and now that it's quiet at work I definitely have time between calls to practice them.

I played some fun Halloween tunes while waiting for dinner to cook. This was a rather fun Halloween this year, and part of what made it so fun was the company and the music.

Merry Christmas to one and all… I spent as much of the day focused on the good things that were in my life and happening in the world. It was a very different Christmas this year for a lot of reasons, but I really tried to focus on the positive and good things in my life through the day. When I would get a little blue, I would go play my guitar next to my sunflowers and everything seemed a little bit better in no time.

I truly hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season, and looks forward to the New Year!

One of many reasons why I love the Carvin brand is the quality of the product they produce. I can tune a guitar- electric or acoustic, and it will hold its tuning for a very long time, even with all the bending and playing I do day after day... high quality instruments!

Carvin guitars are custom builds, so once you order them you have to sit on pins and needles waiting for them to come in. It’s like a kid at Christmas when it finally comes, and the quality- the craftsmanship- the beauty of these guitars cannot possibly be captured in a single picture.

This guitar was a lifetime dream to buy and for good reason- even to this day I am amazed by the beauty of this guitar from head-stock to tailpiece.
