Many browns showed up this weekend, indicating past peak conditions but the afternoon sun still turned this into a patch-work of colors.
Monday, 6 Feb '23 was a beautiful day for hiking. Terri and I hiked Happy Valley Trail at Carvin's Cove in Roanoke County, Virginia, USA,
Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains. Weekend rental of the Sony 100-400mm. A few weekends ago I rented the Sony 70-200 f2.8 and my intent was to compare it against the Sony 100-400. So far I'm leaning towards the 100-400! Ask me why in case you are on the same fence: 70-200 or 100-400.

Carvins Cove is a 630-acre impoundment located just north of the city of Roanoke. This reservoir supplies drinking water for the city of Roanoke and is part of a nearly 12,500-acre nature reserve.
I started a habit of listening to 20 albums a month that I have never heard before. It helps widen my horizons and keep me invested in new music, as well as introduce me to old music I never experienced.
The one undercurrent in this is that I always look for and connect with music that is driven with passion. There's no greater waste than creating something that has no heart or soul, and when you find that passionate music, it lives on and on.

Carvin's Cove Reservoir is the water reservoir for the City of Roanoke. Because of this, there are no motor boats allowed on the water, which means it is very popular spot to fish and explore by kayak.
Pulled this beautiful beast from the guitar cabinet for some upcoming studio work. Petra loves to be played loud!

Capturing more playing moments in the studio… I always feel these get redundant in my stream, but it's what was important to me at the time.
Musical escapism is a real thing for me, and it often calms me down, inspires me, and helps bring clarity.

This shot is from Mr. Carvin Jones show and taken during the Festival of Blues Music organized in Matera (Italy) by The Blues On Society.
After a beautiful sunset at Carvins Cove, I came back the next morning and the lake changed to a scene of calm. I waited for the clouds to move into place and took this shot.
Early morning meetings often get in the way of playing… not today Satan.

I did a 5K with my mother for Thanksgiving, then took a short nap before diving into the studio for a bit… great day with my parents today, and the food was (as always) divine.

This past Sunday was my first musical performance in 21.5 years (or 7,848 days to be exact- but who's counting???). It's been a long road from then to now.
It was great being up on stage and playing, and I expect more performances coming soon. After this performance I realized that I need to change strings on Petra before she plays again!

For me a song is all about the right sound and the right tone. I usually know what I want in my head, but finding the right guitar to deliver that is often a challenge if it's a unique or different sound.

The art and skill of guitar tapping is not something I would say I have mastered by any means, but I continue to learn, develop, and hone that skill. I am a self-taught guitarist, so learning by watching people play and reading was the only way I could learn certain songs and the methods needed to perfect them.
