Cart Marking Ceremony.
The first City spectacular since 2019 celebrates 500 years of heritage and was open to the public. Cart Marking is a free charity event for the whole family and transport enthusiasts alike. At Guildhall Yard in the heart of the City of London, over forty vintage and futuristic vehicles will mark London’s world of wheels, as the Sheriffs and ritually robed Carmen brand each ‘carr’ with a red-hot iron – the origin of vehicle licensing. You can witness this historic ceremony, which dates back some 500 years and celebrates transport through the ages. With a nostalgic look into the past and a unique glance at the future, it showcases a truly eclectic collection of transport.
I came across this in a huge mine in the California desert. As far as I can tell, it's a service station for ore carts, as it had a work bench on either side of the tracks that were covered in grease and an overhead rail connecting the two.
A local collecting thatching grass in the Matobo Hills. This ism permitted by National Parks, who require one bundle in ten as payment. National Parks have a number of thatched lodges to maintain.
Seen on Corporation Street in Birmingham, the cart is owned by Birmingham City Council and is often seen in the very heart of Brum.
Not sure why it carries a registration mark, I do know it was registered in Northampton between September 2010 and February 2011.
This is of course, the final photo I have taken in Birmingham......at least until my next visit which will be in 2013 that is!!
