Here is a final edit of one of the hot dog cart images that might be used in my girlfriend's new restaurant :)

This is the 1897 Soame steam cart, built at the Perseverance Works of Samuel Soame (1837-1918) in the North Norfolk village of Marsham. In the days when good engineering works were much more numerous and regional than the past 50 years of global business amalgamation would lead us to believe, the products from this works were a deal more sophisticated than the title "Agricultural Engineers" would suggest. It was used regularly for trips down to Norwich until about 1904 when it lost out in favour of the economical motor car (and comfortable pneumatic tyres too, I should think) and was laid up until 1946 when it was sold by the Soame family. It subsequently found use around the fledgling veteran and steam rally circuit, even flitting across the screen at the start of the famous film, "Genevieve". In more recent years it returned to Norfolk, receiving some restoration to return it to working order in 1995 and finding a home at a bygones display at Holkham Hall. That collection was dispersed and it is now seen at what is I believe its new home in the care of the Starting Handle Club, appropriately in Marsham, just round the corner from where it was first made.

To be frank, even though it steams and moves, it does appear to need quite a lot of remedial work to return it to tip top order and of course there's the problem because you could end up losing too many of the original parts. For example, in can only run in one of its two gears because one of the (previously repaired) bronze gears has shed a tooth. In one photograph it is possible to see that the frame below the gearbox has been cut and welded up again. I suspected that the gear shafts are now not parallel. Very likely the boiler is non original and I had a sneaking suspicion that the one now fitted is a larger diameter than the original because the cylinder valve links are remarkably close to the boiler - one even being slightly bent to go around, despite there being no cladding at that point.

Having made these and other observations about the current state, there's no denying it is a wonderful machine.

This was on a luggage cart at a rental car office at the Denver Airport. This photo marked the first time someone authoritative has come up and lobbed me the old "may I help you?" while I was taking a photo. "Hi. I'm just taking a picture of these numbers" apparently was a bizarre enough response that he didn't know how to deal with it and just left me alone.

This is one of the greatest things I've ever seen inside of a store. It is a cart escalator, in the Target store in Nashua, New Hampshire. You really need to see it in person to feel the impact. (see also)

With a career starting from the 1920s to the late 1960s, Amorsolo and his school may have found opposition in the many modernists from the 1930s onwards, but his pastoral works were never on the wrong side of popular (the patrons’) opinion.

In this 1967 work, Amorsolo used natural light in his paintings and developed the backlighting technique which can be hinted in this bucolic scene. In typical Amorsolo fashion, the figure of a man alongside the carabao is outlined against a characteristic glow, and the subdued silhouette of the mountain backdrop holds the composition while helping to highlight details in the foreground. This work is a fine exception to the adage that Philippine sunlight was a constant feature of Amorsolo's pastoral works.

Letojanni is a comune (municipality), and coastal resort in the Province of Messina in the Italian region Sicily, located about 170 km east of Palermo and about 32 km southwest of Messina. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 2,634 and an area of 6.8 km².Letojanni borders the following municipalities: Castelmola, Forza d'Agrò, Gallodoro, Mongiuffi Melia, Taormina.Main economic activities are agriculture and fishing. Products mostly cultivated are corn, olives, wine-grapes, almonds, lemons, mulberries, fruit. Interesting is the yearly manifestation "Agosto a Letojanni" (August at Letojanni) in which the festival of fish and water-melon and the parade of the Sicilian cart take place. It is also to underline the strong inclination of territory to tourism. In fact in the place there is a good receptive offer both hotel and camping supplied with facilities fit to receive very many tourists especially during summer. The etymology of Letojanni is a mixture of Latin and Arabic. The place-name derives in fact from Latin Laetum, that is "rich", and from Arabic Ayn, that means "spring". There are not many information about origin of the little town but it is known that until half of the XVIII century it has been under the jurisdiction of Gallodoro town. In the XIX century it was involved in a high economic increase and in 1880 it gained administrative equality with Gallodoro. The earthquake of 1908 damaged some of its buildings later rebuilt. In 1952 it became an independent commune. The most interesting monuments are the Parish Church in neogothic style, rebuilt in 1929 and keeps inside a beautiful picture of Piety of 1700. An important figure original of Letojanni is the famous surgeon Francesco Durante (1844-1934), who was teacher of surgery of the joints and bony at the University of Studies of Roma and he was together with Guido Baccelli founder of the General hospital of Roma and finally he was also named senator of the Reign.

Loading the cart with all the leaves. The reward is to help out with the bonfire. To get picked for a task like this, you had to have done something wrong, at least it was better than a punishment of the slipper or the cane.

Often if you had gone out in the morning in such clothes, you would not get the chance to change out of them if it was just for lunch and you were going straight out afterwards, as long as you were not bringing mud indoors, no time was wasted in changing.

In a way one of the best designs of winter play clothes you could have.
