Carter and his big brother Evan came to visit me this past weekend for a shoot. It's the first time Carter has ever had his pictures done! He was such a cutie pie and love sitting in my little white chair.
So, for most of my shoots lately I've been using my Sigma 70-300mm lens because it's just amazing but I've found that at the short end, 70mm, it's a little to tight on the frame and I'm as far back as I can go in my little shooting area. I'm looking into getting a dedicated portrait lens, the 60mm 2.8. We will see!
Battle damage on the back porch of the Carter House. The room next to this one was used by the Carter's when family members were ill, or when babies were born. Tod Carter was born in that room, before leaving as a young man to fight for the Confederacy. On his way home on what he hoped would be a leave to visit his family, he arrived at Franklin with Hood's army, and instead found himself in a battle almost in his back yard. Leading his men, he was heard to exclaim, "Come on boys, I'm almost home!" He was found about 150 yards from here with 12 bullet wounds, but still alive. He was brought here, and with his family around him, died two days later in the bed where he was born.
