Putting the sports lens to good use #tongueflicker

Portrait of a pretty and fiesty sub-adult female Inland Carpet Python (Morelia metcalfei).

Excerpt from Wikipedia:

Morelia spilota, commonly referred to as the carpet python , is a large snake of the family Pythonidae found in Australia, New Guinea (Indonesia and Papua New Guinea), Bismarck Archipelago, and the northern Solomon Islands.

M. spilota is a large species of python in the genus, reaching between 2 and 4 m (6.6 and 13.1 ft) in length and weighing up to 15 kg (33 lb). The average adult length is roughly 2 m (6.6 ft). Males are typically smaller than females; in some regions, females are up to four times heavier. The head is triangular with a conspicuous row of thermo-receptive labial pits.

The colouring of M. spilota is highly variable, ranging from olive to black with white or cream and gold markings. The patterning may be roughly diamond-shaped or have intricate markings made up of light and dark bands on a background of gray or a version of brown.

Mr. Curly is a curious snake, he explored and investigated every corner of my yard, and a few circular places besides. Dare I say he's a snake who's been around.

This carpet python (morelia spilota mcdowelli) is testament to the amazing gaping capabilities of snakes that enables them to swallow large prey items.

A Carpet Python we came upon on the road at Tamborine Mountain, Australia

I almost trod on this beautiful, 2 metre (6 foot), python yesterday as he crossed the track at Mount Glorious, in Queensland. If you look closely, he seems to have a tick just in front of the eye.

Black and white edit with just a -hint- of vignette.

Closely guarding my camera...sigh. It actively bite the camera a couple of times - l presume just because the camera was warm and potentially prey.

Slipping under a fence this snake was making its way to an old, disused school building out in the Brigalow Belt. It was a challenge trying to frame the python without getting the horizontal planks of wood fencing or the stumps of the building in frame. Shallowing out the depth of field threw up some interesting optics as a result. At the end of the day though…. its all about that flickering tongue #letsbereal

Albino Carpet Python

An insanely defensive jungle python (Morelia spilota cheynei) or possibly coastal carpet python (M. s. mcdowelli) found near Kuranda. Telling these subspecies apart gets super confusing

Not completely sure this is M. s. mcdowelli and not M. s. cheynei. I think both sub-species can theoretically be found in this area

Mister Curly is a domesticated Diamond Python (Morelia spilota) with a placid nature and beautiful disposition. In this shot he is at my back door where I took a few shots of the occasion.
