A man in period costume carves something out of wood. Taken at the 1,000th Anniversary of the battle of Sherston in the village of that name. Not only were scenes from the battle recreated but other people on stalls surrounding the battlefield performed tasks using tools that would have been used back in the 11th Century.
Using the little 102 block plane that used to belong to my grandfather. There are no maker's marks or any other markings, just the number 102 on the baseplate near the back. I've cleaned up the sole and sharpened the blade but no more than that.
Our old shed was showing its age and way too small so I decided to build a new one myself. Since I'd never done anything this big before I decided to document my progress and took a photo after every day's work, although I did miss the second day. That's the old shed at the right edge in each picture. It's site will become a shady rock garden when it's torn down.
30th birthday cake for a carpenter, with hand-made edible tools: hammer; chisel; bradawl; set square; tape measure; screws and nails.
“Ultimately, literature is nothing but carpentry.
With both you are working with reality,
a material just as hard as wood.”
quote by
Gabriel Garcia Marquez
I am using an electric drill with a 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) expansion bit to bore some mouseholes in the frame of four of my layout sections. I had to spend an hour or more to clear off all the trains, buildings, and track from the top of each section, unplug and remove the wiring, and unbolt the sections from their neighbors before I could cut the holes for the wiring of future track expansions. Then after a few minutes of drilling and cleaning up sawdust, it took another hour setting each of them back up. Above me you can see the horizontal L girder that this layout section will rest upon.
A thin slice of curvy wood. If you have been around carpenters at work, you might have noticed these things lying just about everywhere.
I've been trying to understand(and study) lighting and it's impact on photographs. This one was clicked during sunrise. Had clicked few other shots away from the sunlight. Then realized how vibrant morning rays are.

By the hands of Maria Aparecida the grain of the wood cabreúva is visible again. The clerk of CET (Traffic Engineering Company ) works to remove the dyer varnish from Tram 38, that now is being completely refurbished. The vehicle used to run until 1971 in Santos, and after that was present for ten years in the tourist line of São Paulo.

I've walked past here a couple of times, and this van always brings a smile to my face. There's something lovely about people being connected with the work they do.
I asked for the carpenter's permission before taking these. It was kind of easy because I started by saying 'fantastic bumpers!' He told me that they're not finished yet. He's still got some gluing to do.
