A photographic investigation into the concept of 'Captivity' from Foundation/BA studies.

Photographs from 1997/1999/2000.

The zoo was kind of slow that day and it was ridiculously hot, so two of the gorillas decided to come chill against the glass in the small bit of shade created by the building.

I wonder what they get up to at night?

Confined to 200m². For Life.

The first RonJeremy was accidentally killed when Edgar pulled his habitat off the shelf trying to get to a piece of tape to play with. No matter what people might think, I really don't think Edgar even knew there was a fish there until it came crashing down around him. I really think he was pipe-dreaming that tape.

[Fifty Nine] Large predators should not be kept in cages smaller than my house! Let alone three of them all in one area! Who approved that?! People wonder why there are deaths at zoos and theme parks, but can you honestly blame the animal? Take Sea World for example, how does one expect to keep a 6 ton orca in a swimming pool?! It makes me so angry that humans have this absurd need to see animals up close and out of their natural habitat; it's not only selfish, but cruel and ignorant.

Granby Zoo March 1rst (near Montreal)

We were lucky to have on board Marsha Pardee, a local marine ecologist. One of her tasks during this trip was to study the lionfish invasion in Turks. It took us a couple of dives to capture this puppy. They seem to swim slowly, but they can move fast when they want to.

After dinner Marsha was kind to give us lectures about her work in the islands.

Animals captivity? Not really!

Taken at the Vancouver Aquarium on Sunday, July 20th, 2008.

Trip to The Mystic Aquarium.

I’ve put together a series of images showcasing zoo kept birds in their cages. As you can see the cages are obvious to the eye at the first images but as the series progresses it gets more and more unclear. I wanted to illustrate how the birds are now, and how I wish they would be – free as the wind.
