The domed, light to dark grey cap of this fungus sometimes has an attractive bloom when young, like that of grapes.Later, it becomes 'crazed' cracked and wrinkled. The whitish to pale grey gills are fairly widely spaced and thick and the similarly coloured stem is fibrous, sometimes tapered and hollow with age. It also has a powdery surface bloom. The Poisonous flesh has a distinctive smell and taste of flour.
