On the left of Port Fréjus you can see Saint-Aygulf and on the far left Les Issambres at the entrance to the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.
To the right of Port Fréjus, the still green headland, is the hiking area Cap Dramont.
At the bottom right is the bay of Rade d'Agay and Agay.
The large white spot is the Grands Caous quarry. 60 million years ago, volcanic eruptions caused a certain magma to enter the Esterel massif. Today, the blue porphyry is mined there.

A year ago I made a day trip to Cap Dramont (Esterel) and found this place overlooking the Bay and the Ile d`Or. Then I decided to take my photo gear with me next time and stay until sunset. Of course I would have liked a few clouds, but even so it was a great atmosphere and an unforgettable experience. This panorama was assembled from four images.
Swimming across to the Île d’Or, I saw on the hill a kind of grotto. And I thought that this could be a perfect setting for this landscape.
Cap Dramont, Esterel, Provence, France.

In front of the Cape Dramont is the Golden Island (ile d’or). It was in 1897 that the French state put up for sale by public auction the island which was bought by Mr Sergent, architect, at the price of 280 francs (50 dollars). But during a game of cards where one drunk a lot, the eccentric Doctor Auguste Lutaud becomes the owner. He built a Sarrasin tower and in 1912 proclaimed himself "King of the Rocks beaten by the waves", under the name of Augustus the 1st. He coined currency, issued stamps and organized a sumptuous reception for the inauguration of his kingdom on 25 September 1913. During the Second World War the tower was looted and during the 1944 landing a fire destroyed it. By the fifties, only the four outer walls remained. In 1961, François Bureau, a former naval officer, bought the island. He did rebuild the inside of the tower and create a landing stage for the boats. Every day he swam around his island. He died in 1994, at age 76, during his swimming session. His five children and sixteen grandchildren continue to spend their holidays on the Ile d'Or, which is still a private island.

Yannick Lefevre is posting such wonderful pictures of the cap dramont which remind me every time on my holidays on the Côte d'Azur.
On the via ferrata of Cap Dramont you have a magnificent view overlooking the sea. This panorama was made with my "beachcamera" the handy Sony R1.
