Day 2 of Big Ears Festival I rode my AiPAS Ebike down to the Volunteer HQ at Hyatt Place. I picked up my Friday meal voucher. I left my Ebike on Gay St (so it would be close when I came out of the Tennessee Theatre later in the day). Then I popped into Marble City Markets and got a Gyro sandwich from Yassin's Falafel House.
I worked my 2nd volunteer shift at The Greyhound. Performances I saw during my shift, were: Tomas Fujiwara - Dream Up and Dave Harrington & Mary Lattimore.
After my shift, I popped into The Mill & Mine to catch some of Jeff Parker Expansion Trio. Then the next show I attended was Pan•American at The Black Box. Afterwards, I made my way up to the Tennessee Theatre for Caroline Shaw & So Percussion ft. Ringdown. Then I rode home and rested up for the Dirty Three show at the Tennessee Theatre. That was the end of the night for me.

'Tailor Wibbel' is the title of a play by Hans Müller-Schlösser, which premiered at the Düsseldorf Municipal Theater on July 14, 1913.

According to the author of the play, the story goes back to a true event in Berlin during the time of King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. A baker had been sentenced to several weeks in jail after a knife-fight under the influence of alcohol. He persuaded his assistant to serve the time in jail instead of him. However, the assistant died in prison, so the baker was now considered dead. When this became known, the king also learned about it and pardoned the baker.
Müller-Schlösser relocated the location of the plot to his hometown Düsseldorf in the early nineteenth century to the time of the French occupation and turned the baker into a tailor. He was probably inspired by the figure of the tailor Kilian from Heinrich Heine's book Le Grand. The offense for which the tailor Anton Wibbel was responsible was the insult to Emperor Napoleon. Here too, the apprentice died while serving the tailor's sentence. When Tailor Wibbel and his wife Fin watched his own funeral from a window, he said: 'Wow! I'm a nice corpse.'

Art project of the visual artists Carmen Dietrich and Gregor Merten for the promotion of intercultural encounters
In our globalized world, a peaceful and respectful coexistence of people despite all differences of origin, culture and ideology is the basis for a future worth living. It is the intention of the art project "ENGEL DER KULTUREN" to make a contribution to this. Since 2008, it has been promoting intercultural ENCOUNTERS within the framework of actions in public spaces and expanding interreligious DIALOGUE to include a sensual component.
The ANGEL OF CULTURES was created in an initial graphic process: the symbols of the three Abrahamic religions - Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Christianity, and Islam - the Star of David, the Cross, and the Crescent Moon - were placed in relation to each other in various arrangements until a formation was developed in which they are grouped in a balanced relationship on a round surface. The symbols of the three world religions, which also characterize the European cultural area, emerge only halfway out of the surrounding ring; the complete outer form becomes visible only through the inner perception of the viewer - in between, the entire diversity of cultures can be imagined. The basic geometric shapes of triangle, square and circle, which can also be read, symbolize the DIVERSITY IN EVERYTHING in their diversity.
Unintentionally, the abstract figure of an ANGEL or a dove of peace forms within this arrangement. In the tradition of the world's monotheistic religions, angels are regarded as protectors and messengers, pointing to common roots. Both this connotation and the formal logic of the image convey the project's statement against divisive tendencies in a sensual and understandable way:
No group can be separated from this ring without recognizably damaging all the others.
Since 2008, the ANGEL OF CULTURES has been brought to the public through the traditional Art Campaign, in which citizens, representatives of the public and the various religious communities, as well as young people in particular, have always actively participated.
This art campaign has already been carried out in 145 cities in Germany and beyond until 2024, including Tel Aviv, Serajevo, Istanbul and Brussels. In each city, the ANGEL OF CULTURES will be displayed in both ephemeral and permanent ways: First, the rolling sculpture will be moved through the public space to prominent stations - such as places of worship of different religions, memorials, schools, city halls. At these stations, a variety of contributions prepared by the participants will be presented. A temporary sand sculpture of the angel will be created by laying down the sculpture, filling it with soft quartz sand and lifting it up again. The resulting sand angels will shine for a while at the different stations as a sign of solidarity and mutual respect.
At the end of the campaign, the vaulted floor inlay is placed in a well-trafficked space as a lasting reminder. Again, everyone lends a hand: Mayors or representatives of the city and politics, representatives of the various religious communities, young people. The inlay always comes from the city where the last art project took place, because the inlay for the next city is made in each city. The participants of the project create the new inlay by burning it out of a 2 cm thick steel plate, resulting in two elements: the ring, which is cast in blue artificial stone to form the unifying object of the art project, and the inner angel. Through this process of transmission, all participating cities will be bound together in an imaginary bond of peace.
The resulting angel elements will be placed on top of each other to form the PEACE COLUMN FOR JERUSALEM. This will be placed in the city of the three world religions to document how many people, not only in Germany, are committed to living together in reconciled diversity by creating this pillar as part of the art project. A sculpture of solidarity for this conflict-ridden region - combined with an appeal to continue our efforts for a just peace.
By involving many people in the ANGEL OF CULTURES art actions, a SOCIAL SCULPTURE is created. This concept of art propagated by Joseph Beuys includes human action. His famous sentence "Everyone is an artist" calls on people to contribute to the structuring of society through spirituality, creativity, empathy and imagination. In this way, the ANGEL OF CULTURES project aims to inspire young people in particular to stand up for peaceful coexistence, our free and democratic basic order and the preservation of creation as a prerequisite for a successful future.
Spring weather is essentially the atmospheric equivalent of a high-stakes tug-of-war. As the Northern Hemisphere tilts back toward the sun, the lingering, dense cold air from the poles begins to retreat, while warm, moist air from the tropics starts its aggressive push northward. These two drastically different air masses don't just merge peacefully; they collide. This intersection creates a "battleground" where rapid pressure changes and sharp temperature gradients trigger everything from sudden rain squalls to late-season snowstorms.
Much of this seasonal chaos is orchestrated by the jet stream, a high-altitude ribbon of fast-moving air. During the transition from winter to summer, the temperature difference between the equator and the poles remains sharp, which keeps the jet stream powerful yet highly erratic. It tends to "wobble" or meander more during the spring, dragging storm systems across the continent like a whip. One afternoon you might be sitting in a "ridge" of warm, stable air, only for the jet stream to dip overnight, plunging your zip code into a "trough" of arctic-tinged wind and rain.
Finally, we have to account for the "bottom-up" heating of the Earth. While the upper atmosphere often remains quite chilly from winter's leftovers, the strengthening sun begins to rapidly warm the ground. This creates significant atmospheric instability: warm air near the surface wants to rise, but because the air above it is still so cold, that air ascends violently. This convection is why spring is famous for "sun showers" and rapid-fire thunderstorms that seem to appear out of nowhere, even when the morning started with perfectly clear blue skies.
