Morning comes to the west coast of Vancouver Island.

Mount Burgess, 2,599 m (8,527 ft), is a mountain in Yoho National Park and is part of the Canadian Rockies. It is located in the southwest buttress of Burgess Pass in the Emerald River and Kicking Horse River Valleys. In 1909, geologist Charles D. Walcott discovered the Burgess Shale deposit of fossils with fine details on Mount Burgess. The Burgess Shale is a black shale fossil bed (Lagerstätte) named after nearby Burgess Pass, in which are found new and unique species, many in fact constituting entire new phyla of life, and even today some of these unique species have proven impossible to classify. The fossils are especially valuable because they include appendages and soft parts that are rarely preserved. Between 1954 and 1971, Mount Burgess was featured on the back of the Canadian ten-dollar bill. It is still informally called the "Ten Dollar Mountain" as a result.- Wikipedia

This is a favourite photography spot for me. I've been coming here for four years and I don't think I have ever seen the grasses looking so green, especially not in August. It's a measure of how relatively cool and wet this summer has been.

It was plenty warm enough today though at 30 C. The cows were mainly lazing in the shade of the tree with a light breeze rippling across the pond.

A friend and I had been walking a trail in a marsh when we heard the song of a nearby Marsh Wren. We watched and waited and after a while, the Wren burst out of the deep cover, moving further into the marsh with no shot offerred. As we turned to move along a flash of colour caught my eye, as this Common Yellowthroat (f) popped out for a quick visit. Always nice to get a chance for a nature sighting, even if it wasn't the one expected.

Hmm, an original title! I might come up with something better later. This collection was too good to miss with the view beyond in the garden. I am beginning to think I have an old bottle fetish!

I took several variations of this and have edited 3 versions, one with the whole window, one cropped lower showing only three panes, but this was the only one that really worked.

Ugly is Beautiful

Possibly one of my most favourite shots taken this year. Taken along one of the mountain roads in the Annapolis Valley. I have shot this barn before, but never has it looked so beautiful as it did on Saturday, the late afternoon sun had lit the scene to perfection. If I managed in this shot to capture and convey even half of what it actually looked like through my eyes, then I consider it mission accomplished.

Happy Thanksgiving Canada!

This is a single shot, non-HDR. The light was very flat with just a bit of sunlight coming through the clouds. Lighting corrected with Lightroom.

Thompson River

A week ago this view would have been all white and now the only snow is on the hills and only a bit of ice left on the river. We had a short period of extremely cold weather and now it's freakishly warm for the end of January. It got up to 10 C today.

Well, we still have some snow around but at least we're above freezing now!

This is another picture from BTS (before the snow). Autumn is my favourite season and I am going to enjoy it for as long as I can, even if only through my photos. I liked this view for the warm, slightly rosy light of the setting sun on the hilltops and reflected in the river.

Beautiful evening light over one of the many lakes surrounding Jasper in Western Alberta (Canadian Rockies), Canada.

Today was my first little trip out of the house on the weekend in months. I am easing my way out of hibernation (I am still very sluggish though). The snow has all but gone thankfully and the sun has been shining all weekend. I feel I am taking baby steps back out into the outside world. Hopefully this will mark the start of things to come and the end of my Seasonal sadness.

Not the most flattering light, but the sight was no less stunning to behold.

Took a trip out to Prospect last night. The aim of the mission was to practice my low light, long exposure photography. So here's the thing...It was very cold, my night shots were terrible, my low light shots were okay....BUT what I just couldn't get to grips with was the fact this...ONE of the TWO fishing shacks I love the most in the Province has been re-shingled and NOT been re-painted RED. I am beyond upset about this! This cove was SO picture perfect before. Please if the owners are reading this...You have done a lovely job with the shingles, but please for the love of art, paint it red again.

I thought I would intersperse some more current images in amongst the shots I took when my father visited. You may recall I have shot this mill before on a couple of occasions, but this time was by far the best result, thanks to the glorious Fall colours. I will post the landscape version at some point. (Best viewed larger!).

Wells Gray Provincial Park

Clearwater, BC, Canada

With a drop of 141 m (463 ft), Helmcken Falls is the fourth highest waterfall in Canada. It's easily accessible and always breath taking, though I did hit it lucky with weather as a local told me they'd been having a lot of rain.

Haven't seen this old beauty in about 3 years. And yes there was snow in some areas yesterday :o( It might look sunny but it sure was cold.

On a day trip to Clovermead Adventure Farm, I stopped to take a couple of quick photos with my phone. The best camera is the one you have with you.

Unfortunately, you can see the HDR artefacts and some other issues, but it's still a fun picture.

This is a lighthouse in someone's yard on an Alberta Lake. An odd thing to see on the prairies at 3:30 am. lol

Stopped off at Prospect on route to Peggy's...I can never pass the turning without going down there to snap one of my favourite and most familiar views.

Vernon, B.C.

The lake was named for a chief of the Okanagan people. It's often called the "lake of a thousand colours" for at times the lake can have patches of turquoise, teal, blue and indigo water all at once.

Gotta love those classic teardrop front doors! Taken a couple of weekends ago.

Sometimes it's so hard not to anthropomorphize animals. This pair, a male and a female, were standing up on a big rock apart from the other ducks. It seemed to me that they were both trying hard to pretend not to see the other while they thought up a conversation opener.

That's fresh snow the female is standing in. Grrr...4 cm last night and more forecast for the next few days.

Now it has warmed up a bit, we took another trip out this this great old place. I think it has to be one of my favourites when it comes to abandoned houses.
