It's always fun to see the interesting new watercraft in the demonstration pool. Aside from the regular canoes and kayaks, there were waterbikes and tiny kayaks meant for doing tricks and such.
Tribal Canoe Journeys of Pacific Northwest Native American Tribes, a significant cultural event that takes place once a year.
The Puyallup Tribe of Washington State was the host tribe for 2018 for all the Canoes sent by other tribes along the Pacific Northwest Coast. Tribes all along the coast traveled via paddling their traditional Ocean Canoes, beautiful, functional and ornate! These Canoe teams traveled from as far as Alaska, including far stretches of Vancouver Island, British Columbia and far stretches of Oregon Coast. Paddling for 4 to 6 six hours a day, some for over ten days, battling ocean current, heat and sheer physical exhaustion.
Each Canoe was fitted with a GPS Transponder and its latest position was updated in 30min intervals in the Website : paddletopuyallup.org/
When we picked up the car and trailer after our trip we found one of the new tail lights broken off with a note on our windshield apologizing and giving a phone number to call. Luckily our shuttle drive owned the hardware store in Big Falls so after $7 and 7 minutes Jace had us back on the road. Good thing he'd brought his tool box. We sent the offender a message saying not to sweat it. Stuff happens.
first canoe of hopefully many, i'd like to eventually make a business out of it. if you're interested in a cedar strip canoe, let me know. I could very well hook you up. This type of thing can't be done anything other than hand-made.
Canoe Pass is situated on the South arm of the Fraser River passing through Ladner. The pilings in the foreground are the remains of a salmon cannery.
A four day adventure spent canoeing & camping along the banks of the River Wye. #microadventure.
