You can see where the description “Blue Hawaii” came from. The vantage point here would have been the roof of the clubhouse at the Outrigger Canoe Club. Blackhawk Films commercial souvenir slide with no indication of date taken but it appears to be late 1950s vintage based on cars and buildings in some of the other scenes.

Now here is how you talk to a friend while using Social Distancing!! As I crossed the bridge I saw this lady in her small kayak floating on the canal, talking to someone. As I moved further over the bridge I could just see someone on the stern of a house barge who was chatting to her (the angle their barge was moored at made it hard to see the person on it)
Our goal is always to canoe on New Year's Day, and fortunately the conditions allowed us access to the St. Lawrence River for a sunset paddle. There was extreme weather variability the past 24 hours, starting with mild temperature Dec 31 (+4C), then rain, followed by freezing rain. By mid afternoon the clouds dissipated and the sun shined but the temperature dropped to below freezing (-6C) and the wind picked up. In Canada, January First often has people diving into the water for the so-called "Polar Plunge". This was definitely not our intention, especially with our dog in our canoe (Misha in the foreground).
Sunset is only minutes away as M521 rolls across Canoe Creek and towards a meet with a northbound coal empty at the Canoe siding here in deep South Alabama. Even CSX's current paint scheme can look nice when fairly clean and in the warm glow of winter late-day sun.

Llyn Geirionydd lies in a valley near Capel Curig and Betws y Coed, North Wales UK, where the northern edge of the Gwydyr Forest meets the lower slopes of the Carneddau mountains. The lake is almost a mile long and covers an area of 45 acres
Time out! I need to paddle a canoe... This was asked of me and I had to schedule it in. Im glad I did. My left arm has been feeling the weight of a DSLR recently and my right hand is cramping from the use of a mouse in Lr and Ps. I really should learn more key commands...
Canoeing on George Lake in Killarney Provincial Park on the Easter weekend in April. Normally there would still be ice on the lake.
Recently we went sailing and at the boathouse there were all of these canoes, neatly in line, just waiting to be taken out

Canon AV-1, Tokina AT-X 100-300mm F4.0, negative for recording ISO 100, exposed as ISO 400, developed with C-41 based reversal process by Michitaro Kohno ( 7.5 minutes at 37 DegC, elongated from 5 minutes @ISO100) as described previously, scanned at 3200DPI with Epson V700 + Epson software, edited with GIMP.
This ancient canoe was found on a drained section of what was once the enormous Martin Mere , close to Crossens , by a farmer in 1899 . Reverend William Bulpit , a keen local historian , was called to examine the canoe and he quickly realised that it was extremely old and historically important . After haggling with the farmer's wife , he removed the canoe for safe keeping .
Carbon dating has identified the canoe as being from about AD 535 which tells us that people were fishing on the mossland meres nearly 1500 years ago . When it was found the canoe had been repaired with small lead sheets and a musket was discovered inside it . It's possible that the canoe was still in use or was found and reused many hundreds of years after it was made .
Eleven canoes have been recovered from Martin Mere and its perimeter but the Crossens canoe is the only surviving example .

As I do just about every Memorial Day Weekend, I spent the weekend with my family at my old stomping grounds, Camp Cachalot in Plymouth, Massachusetts for the camp’s alumni family camping weekend. This was a bit of an occasion this year, as the weekend was fifty years to the day since a forest fire swept through the camp in 1964, doing substantial damage and forcing the evacuation of 700 Scouts from a camporee that was going on at the time.
If you’ve been following my photostream for any length of time, you know I never met a sunset over the camp’s main pond, Five Mile, that I didn’t like. In all honesty, the sunsets this past weekend weren’t the most spectacular I’ve ever seen out there, but I was looking for an angle that was at least a little different that what I've shot before, and this cluster of canoes left on shore looked like an interesting composition to my eye.
I still haven’t gotten filters capable of dealing with my Tokina wide-angle, so I went the HDR route to compensate for the deep shadow in the foreground. I closed the aperture down to get the starburst on the sunset (and exposed some sensor dust that I need to clean up.)
This was my Nikon D7000 w/Tokina 11-16mm @ 11mm, ƒ/22, 1/8s, with exposures 1, 2, and 3 stops up and down from that central shot. I merged to HDR in Nik HDR Efex, and then tried to shoot for something reasonably natural processing-wise, with cropping and some minor touch-up in Aperture (mostly to clear up that sensor dust.)
