The Candlestick is the colloquial name for the disused ventilation chimney of Wellington Pit. Built in 1850 by Sydney Smirke. There is also a pub in town with same name

This is really just a reconnaissance shot for a future trip, hopefully next full moon.
The towering dolerite cliffs of The Candlestick rise between Cape Hauy and The Lanterns, and next to the narrow, swaying Totem Pole (not visible).

Several happy hours trying some rotating/blended shots today - all of which were spectacularly rubbish - so a weird candlestick from the "what happens if I turn something between centres remounting it on a couple of different axes and the epoxy doesn't cure properly so runs out" range

A dense grove of old growth autumnal aspen that resemble candlesticks in beautifully soft backlight in Dixie National Forest in Southern Utah.
...and not only the decoration at our candlestick, which hasn't been removed by our sweet and playful kitty, btw, though she had some fun with other nice Christmas stuff, lol :)
Last night's Monday Night Football matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Atlanta Falcons was the last regular season game, and depending on the playoff picture possibly the last game ever, at historic Candlestick Park in San Francisco. I joined my dad, a 37-year 49ers season ticket holder, in saying goodbye to the place that hosted many of the greatest moments in San Francisco sports history. Look up the top ten moments in Candlestick Park history and my dad was there and witnessed most, if not all of them. He even saw The Beatles at Candlestick for their last ever public concert.
It was a great night capped off by an exciting finish for a 49ers victory. Below are a few photos I took throughout the evening.
Thanks for looking and Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to you all!

This was the last regular-season NFL game at The 'Stick.

THE WELLINGTON PIT.
It was sunk in 1838 and finally closed in 1932. This was a very 'fiery' pit, and the scene of numerous accidents including a major disaster which claimed 132 lives in May 1910. The most striking feature of this mine is its “Candlestick” chimney which is a landmark for the area, standing on a hill top overlooking the harbour. The chimney is actually an air vent for the workings, rather than a conventional chimney.
A set of monstrous candlesticks, beautifully adorned and with angels at their base. These are in a side chapel not far from the main altar.

My wife and youngest son accompanied me to land's end to watch the sunset in late November last year. Proving that I am crap at predicting sunsets, I looked at the cloud cover on the way to the trailhead and concluded with 90% confidence that the sun was going to disappear unceremoniously into thick cloud and call it quits for the day. It takes a special person to genuinely love being wrong, but I was that person as the light began to dance in the clouds.
Thanks for the visits and comments!
