Portion of a candlestick decoration,

Thanks for taking time to fave, comment and look at my work. I really appreciate.

Sometimes photo's taken in our surroundings turn out to be as good as those captured after hours in search of a great shot, miles away from home. This shot caught my eye, with the colours and light of a bookcase through the distorted view of a glass candlestick holder.

This week Macro Mondays theme is “Spooky and Frightful”. Quite appropriate since today is Halloween. So, last week I went to hunt for a small object that could fit the theme and was fortunate enough to find a “Skeleton Skull Candlestick Holder”. There is actually 10 little skulls all around the candlestick holder, each of them being slightly different. The main skull in my picture, and for me the most frightful one, is 2” tall, and its left little neighbour is 1.5”. Due to the DOF, the center part where the candle would sit is blur. I also did a little bit of photo editing to give it a spooky feeling.

Happy Macro Mondays everyone!

… and Happy Halloween! 🎃

Thank you everyone for your visits, faves, and kind comments.

This lady is technically a candle maker and not a candlestick maker, I guess.

…….Most unusual for me, I’m undecided with these two because I like them both! The numbers will indicate any favouritism, or you might me like me and like both? They are a Macro Monday theme shot that was not posted but decided to edit for Sliders Sunday. Happy Sliders Sunday to all on Flicker. Alan:-) HSS

A landscape of candlestick fungi..

One of the prominent formations of the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands, this tower is most commonly viewed from either the Green River or Candlestick Tower Overlook. Here, the Tower is seen looking East from the White Rim Road where it intersects with the Wilhite Trail.

(Saxifraga tridactylites)

The plant is 2-8 cm high and is often red and covered with gland hairs. Sometimes the candlestick is somewhat larger and branched. The lower leaf is spatula-shaped and trilobal. The upper leaves are hand-shaped and have three to five slits.

The flower is white, has a diameter of 4-6 mm and has five calyx and five petals. The flower has ten stamens. The centers of flowers separate shimmering nectar drops. These can be seen in sunshine. The little flowers form a separate bijscherm, which blooms from April to June.

Dwarf Candlestick banksia.

As well as being pollinated by and being the provider of food to a vast range of animals particularly in the summer months the candlestick banksia is known to have a lifespan of 300 years.

Among the recipients of its succulence are the honeyeater and the honey possum both of which play an important role as pollinators.

The shrub has the capacity for regeneration from bushfire with the regrowth coming from the epicormics buds that are located within its trunk or from its base known as a lignotuber.

Banksia attenuata,or dwarf candlestick banksia is found only in the southwest of Western Australia however it is available in other parts of Australia at nurseries.

Crazy Tuesday: Wood grain

I took this last year on my first trip to Canyonlands. I could spend a lifetime there-I've never been to a place that made me feel so insignificant, and so exhilarated as well. Being alone here on this spot, with no one around for miles, was priceless. I can imagine Edward Abbey standing here and feeling the same way.
