Het uitgebreide cameranetwerk van de lokale politie Damme/Knokke-Heist werpt zijn vruchten af. Het politieteam rukte vorig jaar 498 keer uit voor incidenten die een cameraoperator live vaststelde en onderschepte 164 wagens dankzij de nummerplaatlezers. “Het cameranetwerk is heel waardevol bij de uitoefening van het politiewerk”, zegt woordvoerster Isolde Van Eenooghe. “Daarom rolden we het netwerk de voorbije maanden verder uit met zestien camera’s op zeven nieuwe locaties. Op tien bestaande locaties kwam er een extra camera bij. Ook het coördinatiecentrum kreeg een facelift en extra monitors om meer beelden live te projecteren.” Het kostenplaatje bedraagt in totaal 326.703,4 euro*.
De uitrol van het cameranetwerk
Het politieteam bouwt al sinds 2006 haar cameranetwerk uit. In de politiezone staan ondertussen 124 bewakingscamera’s op 62 verschillende locaties. De politie beschikt ook over twee verplaatsbare camera’s die in functie van de nood voor korte duur inzetbaar zijn. Het cameranetwerk telt eveneens 22 ANPR-camera’s en dat op sommige locaties in combinatie met trajectcontroles. In de politiezone rijden ook twee politiewagens rond die elk zijn uitgerust met drie nummerplaatlezers.

Our annual father's day photography adventure had to be postponed. I had job come up last minute so we did our trip a week later. We took Dad's brand new hybrid Lincoln to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. From the mainland you can pretty much drive down to Ocracoke. They have national parks, Wright Brothers stuff and lighthouses. There are also wild horses. It was easy to find a few of them but once we rented a Jeep we could drive down the beach and it seemed like they were everywhere.
Near the Cape Hatteras lighthouse, between where it used to be and where it is now, there is a little pond filled with turtles. They are not afraid of people at all.
