Introduced in 1965, an interesting Ricoh camera with a spring motor drive and auto exposure, and a novel focusing system they called Dia-Focus, which used a diamond-shaped yellow spot in the middle of the finder that changed its size depending on the distance focused at, and was intended to approximate the visible size of a person's head in the finder.

I haven't tested this system yet, but it does seem to have its merits, unless of course you want to photograph a cat or a pet snake or an iguana.

The finder shows distance icons and a moving needle coupled to the focusing mechanism to indicate where the lens is focused at. You also see a nice projected frame. And the finder magnification is approximately 0.6x.

The broken glass you see is just a cover glass, and should be easy to replace. But it looks awful, and because of this, and because the seller wasn't able to test the spring motor or the shutter or the auto exposure system, none of which are easy to test on this camera, I got this for only US$10 plus shipping. The shipping cost twice as much as the camera actually.

The auto exposure system uses a Cadmium Sulfide cell above the lens, and seems to work well. I've just tested it. It seems to be reasonably accurate too, compared with an SLR with TTL metering.

The spring motor works well, and I've already had familiarity with Ricoh's spring motor system in their Auto Shot model that I owned in the 1970s. It was a more compact model introduced in 1964, with a prismatic finder above the lens, an auto exposure system using a ring-shaped selenium cell around the lens barrel, and a more compact 35mm f/2.8 lens, and a shutter release on the front that was considered better because it did not protrude from the top deck, but was awkward to use as it limited the space available for holding the camera by that much more.

This weekend (I know, it's Tuesday...!) has been amazing, such an amazing celebration for our Queen - speechless really!

Needless to say it has kept me busy - I'll be uploading the my 365 shots from the past few days, tomorrow, so keep watching for those!

In the mean time, here is a photograph of Sasha from a few days ago (Processed in Lightroom 4 with Whipped Cream Lightroom Preset / King Pack) - how amazing is that sun flare? LOVE sun flares!

L'ultimo tramonto del 2009.

Concerned about a lack of birdy subjects murph le took to bringing her own Chickadee along with her on photography jaunts.

Alguns querem guardar pedaços do tempo; alguns querem guardar lugares; muitos querem guardar pessoas.

Happy Macro Monday everyone!

Not my 365, I just like it.

Yipee, I'm off to political science class(sarcasm). But I do have a nice steaming cup of coffee waiting for me to drink.

I'll see ya later with my 365.
