Cairo the capital of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the largest city in Africa and the Arab World, and one of the most densely populated cities in the world. Nicknamed "The City of a Thousand Minarets" for its preponderance of Islamic architecture, Cairo has long been a center of the region's political and cultural life. Even before Cairo was established in the tenth century, the land composing the present-day city was the site of national capitals whose remnants remain visible in parts of Old Cairo. Cairo is also associated with Ancient Egypt due to its proximity to the Great Sphinx and the pyramids in adjacent Giza.

Cairo at night, dusty november night.

Single shot Handheld (no tripod!) in a dusty night at Cairo 15 minutes after sunset last November, processed in ACR, PS CS6, and Tonemapped with HDR efex pro 2, also used other Nik plug ins like Color efex pro, Dfine, Sharpener pro), I was impressed with the final image as it was handheld and slow shutter may make it blurry, Enjoy.

I know this is totally random, but I'm having to find things to do whilst 'isolating' at home. I came across a few prints whilst rummaging around a few days ago and I'm not normally an advocate of scanning such if there are negatives available. However, the previous scan I did of this from a negative wasn't even this good, so I thought I'd share this Mk II version for something a bit different.

In 1975, I found myself on an educational cruise . . . along with a couple of thousand other kids, aboard the SS Uganda. One of our ports of call was Alexandria (a real eye-opener!). From there we were bussed to Cairo to do the touristy things like museums, Pyramids and Sphinx etc. I recall being more intrigued by the fact that the city had Trolleybuses, though attempts to photograph them were thwarted at every juncture. This one however was merely a grabshot through the window of our Mercedes (0302?) coach. I'm glad that I got something as I believe Trolleybuses in that city are no more. Regrettably I know nothing about make and type.
