I was on the other side of Cadnam's Pool when, through the trees, I saw the ponies taking their last drink of the day
There were around 20 goslings at Cadman's Pool this morning. This was one of the newest of the broods
The building with the lit-up top is the Woolworth Tower is located downtown in Manhattan across from City Hall Park on Broadway between Park Place and Barclay Street. Five-and-dime millionaire Frank W. Woolworth commissioned this building named after himself in 1910 a year following the MetLife Tower open its doors as the tallest building in the world. Woolworth wanted his namesake to have that honor, being the tallest building in the world. He worked closely with his architect MIT educated Cass Gilbert to achieve his goal expanding the cost from the originally estimated $5 million to $13.5 million dollars that he financed totally with cash, no loans or help from developers. It was his baby basically his financial input giving him an unusual degree of control over design and construction. When it opened in April 1913, sitting US president Woodrow Wilson pressed a button in the White House that lit up the interior floors and the innovative exterior floodlights, the building was given the moniker “Cathedral of Commerce” by Reverend C. Parkes Cadman which has endured until today. The Woolworth Tower is 792 feet tall, 60 stories tall easily the tallest building in the world at its opening and the second tallest structure after the Eiffel Tower. Cass Gilbert’s granddaughter was giving small groups tours pre COVID 19 pandemic. Next time I’m back east I need to check if she has resumed, would love to tour this classic Art Deco tower which got a new lighting scheme and now is literally getting buried by new taller skyscrapers that surround it. - [ ] #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #tamractales @kehcamera #omd #microfourthirds #micro43 @nycurbanism @nycprimeshot @nybucketlist

It has finally cooled down and we had are first good night's sleep for quite a while. 25 degrees at night is no joke without air conditioning. We spent the really hot days indoors with the curtains closed but yesterday we went out for a walk along the coast. It was cloudy and their was a strong breeze - absolute bliss. We also checked the Forest out. Most of the small watering spots have dried up and the heathlands are completely dry and yellow. However, the ponies tend to go into the woods in bad weather (extreme heat or extreme cold) and also the larger pools and ponds did have water. Also good commoners (the people who graze their animals on the land) bring out hay to their animals in bad weather. It is terrifying to see the people who lost their houses due to fires here and in Europe.
We were out at Cadman's Pool in the evening and interesting to see that the geese and their goslings leave the pond, cross a path and forage for food there
Not sure whether the ponies had heard the water was running low at Cadman's Pool but there were around several small herds running like mad across the heath yesterday morning. Must have been around 40 in total - not sure what spooked them
We went out for what can be termed as a hobble yesterday, rather than a walk. The sun was shining and it was glorious out in the Forest, but my goodness was it cold. There was a bitter wind blowing.
Cadmans Cottage or Cadman's Cottage is a heritage-listed former water police station and sailor's home and now visitor attraction located at 110 George Street in the inner city Sydney suburb of The Rocks in the City of Sydney local government area of New South Wales, Australia. The property is owned by NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, an agency of the Government of New South Wales. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. Cadmans Cottage is the second-oldest surviving residential building in Sydney, having been built in 1816 for the use of the governmental coxswains and their crews. The building is heavily steeped in the history of Sydney, also claiming the title as the first building to have been built on the shoreline of The Rocks area. It is claimed that during high tide, the water would come within 2.4 metres of Cadmans Cottage; however, due to the reclamation of land during the building of Circular Quay, the waterline has moved about 100 metres away since 1816. The building has had several different uses in its lifetime; first and foremost as the abode of the four governmental coxswains (from 1816 until 1845), the headquarters of the Sydney Water Police (from 1845 to 1864)[5] and as the Sailor's Home (from 1865 to 1970). Restoration of Cadmans Cottage began in 1972 after it was proclaimed a heritage site under the National Parks and Wildlife Act and control of the site was handed over to the Sydney Cove Redevelopment Authority. A major archaeological investigation occurred in 1988 (in preparation for the bicentennial redevelopment) and since then, only minor maintenance works have been completed on the building. The building is now used as the home for the Sydney Harbour National Parks Information Centre and can be viewed by the public. 7822
Another scorching hot day today with temperatures reaching 30 degrees. We went out early this morning for a walk in the Forest but it was 23 degrees then. If you were wondering how the ponies manage, they head deep into the woods. There were about 40 ponies in this wood near Cadman's Pool
Sydney, AUSTRÀLIA 2023
The Rocks is one of Sydney’s most historic neighborhoods, located by the harbor and beneath the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It was the site of the first European settlement in Australia in 1788. With its cobblestone streets, sandstone buildings, and historic pubs, it retains a unique colonial charm. Today, it is a vibrant tourist destination with markets, galleries, museums, and a lively nightlife. The The Rocks Market is a highlight, offering local crafts and food. It is also home to landmarks like the Museum of Contemporary Art and Cadman’s Cottage, the city’s oldest house. Its blend of history and modern attractions makes it a must-visit in Sydney.
Another blazing hot day here today. 30 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. We visited Brownsea Island yesterday hoping that there would be an island breeze, but it was just as warm there. This little fellow was taken at Cadman's Pool on Wednesday evening.
Back to work tomorrow but I'm at that stage where I am happy to return (if for no other reason that I have an air conditioned office - lol)
Not a lot of sun lately but quite a few mandarins have turned up at Cadman's Pool bringing some colour to the grey waters
Well not really, more of a mucky brown. Cadnam's Pool truly is this colour, probably because the animals are always traipsing through it to drink and stirring up the mud . I was very excited to see the first ducklings of the season
This Horde of Goslings were too big to get under their Mom's wings. They just huddled up together to keep warm.
Well there were enough tears yesterday - I realise Nana has had the best life she could within the confines of her personality.
Therefore I am going to leave for my weekend with Claudia, Gnorri and Omar in Rome on a happy note. See you all when I get back
And remember enjoy life as much as you can because you never know when the coconut of gloom will fall out of the tree and hit you on the head - lol
I Finally made it to Cadman's Pool this evening to see the little goslings!
I wasn't disappointed ..................
Only two ducklings at Cadman's on Saturday morning. There had probably been more but.......................
We came across this stallion at Cadman's Pool in the New Forest today. I jokingly asked Mas to "Smile at the camera" and he did!
I had previously seen Rappin' Max Robot at Mill Pond Park in front of the Hip Hop Museum in the Bronx and was delighted to see him again in Cadman Plaza, Brooklyn.
The Rappin' Max Robot sculpture was inspired by the comic book character created by Eric Orr 1986. The sculpture was fabricated by Welder Underground in Brooklyn from 7,000 pounds of steel.
Rappin' Max Robot will be installed permanently in Paris at Place de la Bataille-de-Stalingrad next year.
We managed to get out for a couple of hours yesterday morning in between showers. Sad to see only two goslings out of the original six are still at Cadman's
Well Monday and back at work! We had a wonderful sunny weekend so everyone has started back feeling refreshed. It's a case of brushing ourselves off and getting on with it.
Still no computer at home - so visits will be limited:-)
In two weeks time we are off to visit a Flickr friend in Rome for a long weekend - can't wait!!
Spent an hour at Cadman's Pool yesterday afternoon. Phill went into the woods but I sat by the pond right next to a group of Canada geese and their young. Once they got used to me I was able to sit real close and get some sweet shots of their family life.
There was a small herd in the woods at Cadman's Pool. A horse and rider came trotting by and whoosh off they galloped through the trees and across to the heathland. I think they thought it was a drift (round up).
Lots of action at Cadman's Pool at the weekend. Around 10 more canada geese have arrived and lots more ducks. Wouldn't be surprised to see the muscovies turning up soon. All getting ready for a little spring action
Very busy catching up on chores but I got up really early this morning to visit Cadman's Pool to see if there were any goslings - and yeah there are 10. One family have 6 and the other 4. They were as friendly as ever and came straight over to me bringing the little ones. I'll catch up with you later:-)
