C&O 103448 at Selkirk NY in April 1982. This group of cars were built by the thousands by the C&O at their Raceland KY shops circa 1956/57. Under Chessie, this became class H29. Some cars were transferred to the B&O during the 1960s. JR Quinn photo, JL Sessa collection.

Short C-23A Sherpa 84-0467 on final approach. 10th MAS at Zweibrücken (West Germany) had 18 of these transports in use from 1985 until November 1990 for flying cargo and personnel between airbases. With just a little luck you could spot at least one at any USAFE base any day.
Every C-23 wore the name of a USAFE airbase. 84-0467 was 'Upper Heyford'.
The USAFE C-23's were transferred to the US Army, USAF Test Pilots School and U.S. Forest Service.

Here's and interesting shot. I actually stopped on the Carquinez bridge somewhere before 5am to grab this perspective of the Sugar Factory. Setup my tripod with the bridge deck jumping and jolting from passing trucks. Heavily cropped, lots of noise but I like it.
I'm going to have to go back. As you can see the 'Pure Cane Sugar' sign was not lit.
This weeks SNS is C&O U25B 2525 leading a geep near Wayne Junction MI. There is some motion blur so it appears the early U-boat was cooking right along in this David Sweetland shot from July 1968. Chuck Schwesinger collection.
