This group of 3 Conair CV580's have been assigned to the British Columbia Forest Service air tanker base at Penticton. Only 4 of the type remain in the Conair fleet. The other one is assigned to Alaska and this is likely the last year for them before retirement. They served well in the role for over 20 years. Tanker 49 and 55 left on a practice mission but the fence got in my way when 55 took off.

This was a headshot that "C" needed for a college class. "Has to be plain, front facing, no makeup". Thought it might be nice to see "C" just regular...and her eyes are gray for those that have asked.
Comet C/2022-E3
Last time it approached earth was about 50.000 years ago. During the age of the Neanderthaler.
As the comet moves compared to the stars, this image is a composite image of an image with alignment on the comet with removed stars, and anopther with alignment on the stars with removed comet.
Both referenced to an image taken at 03.15hr.
Thus this composite is representing the correct position of the comet with respect to the strars at januari29th 2023 @ 03.15hr.

The Lock Keeper's House.
The Lockkeeper's House is the only remnant of the C & O Canal Extension. The building was constructed as the house for the Lockkeeper of the Canal, who collected the tolls and kept records of commerce on the canal. The C & O Extension was built between 1832 and 1833 to connect the Washington City Canal with the C & O Canal. The Washington City Canal was first proposed by Pierre L'Enfant in his 1791 plan for the Capital and was opened in 1815. It served as the major thoroughfare until railroads became the dominant form of transportation in the 19th century. Furthermore, the local, Washington City Canal, was beset by problems of poor maintenance.
After the Civil War there were numerous proposals to revitalize the Washington City Canal, but in the 1870s the long process of filling the canal began. During the development of Potomac Park in the early 1900's, the Lockkeeper's House was given to the United States and functioned for a while as the Park Police headquarters. By 1940 Federal Office buildings began to appear along Constitution Avenue near the Lockkeeper's House. That year, the first floor of the building was converted to use as a public comfort station. Presently the building is used for park maintenance storage.

Boiler under restoration at the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso, Mi. North Western 175 was built in 1908 by the American Locomotive Company in Schenectady, New York. It is a relatively-late example of a 4-6-0 Ten-wheeler; the standard dual-purpose locomotive of the early 1900’s and used on light trains until the 1940’s.
The Chicago and North Western and related railroads had 395 4-6-0’s built to this general design by 2 builders between 1901 and 1910, but the 175 is one of the 40 most modern; being equipped with the Walschaerts valve gear instead of the more primitive design. With 63-inch driving wheels, these locomotives were known to exceed speeds of 60 miles per hour.

If you like photographing both wildlife and airshows (like I do!), you can do both at the same time at Banner Marsh State Fish Wildlife Area near Canton, IL. While photographing some swans in the marsh, I took a few seconds to hoist the lens straight up to catch this Lockheed C-130 Hercules of the 182d Airlift Wing of the Air National Guard out of Peoria, IL.
