Pinnacle Buttes in Togwotee Pass, Wyoming

Awesome Google ad Katia got in Gmail a few minutes ago. (I assure you, she wasn't writing an email about butts or paste or butt paste.)

Blue Ringtail Damselfly (Austrolestes annulosus) male

A flashback to this day last year when I spotted the first Damselfly for the Spring.

Happy Beautiful Bug Butt Thursday.

Just spreading some holiday joy. From our family to yours.

Butt Seriously, Madison is the brain child behind this, as I have been informed, new Christmas tradition of wearing matching pj's. What the heck. Why not. Share the love everyone. B

Honey Bee

Not the weather for being out looking for insects, or anything else, so an image from earlier in the week.

Happy Beautiful Bug Butt Thursday!

Note that there are no established trails. Some well-worn paths have been made by hikers choosing the same route over time, but you are free to roam as you please—and it is encouraged to do so. A 4WD vehicle with high clearance is a necessity for access.

Tau Emerald (Hemicordulia tau)

Another angle on the Tau Emerald Dragonfly that visited a few days ago.

Happy Beautiful Bug Butt Thursday!

Haven't identified this one, sorry. Happy Beautiful Bug Butts Thursday anyway.

Look @ all that junk in this man's trunk.

Quartier de La Butte aux Cailles

Photographed June 3, 2015 at the Pawnee Buttes, located within the Pawnee National Grassland in the northeast corner of Weld County, Colorado, approximately 13 miles south of the Wyoming border. The Buttes rise approximately 300 feet above the prairie, making them a predominant and beautiful geologic feature within the Pawnee National Grassland. It was a beautiful day for a visit--sunny and about 75 deg. F--and the prairie was a bright green from lots of April-May rain.

Equipment used: Sony Alpha A-58 with Sony AF DT 18-70mm lens on tripod.

This broad-billed hummingbirds, butt feathers seemed a bit ruffled. I suspect that he's using those feathers as just another control surface, employed to keep him hovering at the flowers. Boyce Thompson Arboretum

This photo was taken at Wild Animal Park in San Diego. We got to hand feed rhinos!

Monument Valley. Although these well-known buttes: East Mitten, West Mitten and Merrick Butte could be seen from the scenic drive US 163, it is worthwhile to take a closer look in the Navajo Tribal Park. This park does not belong to the US national park system and our annual pass failed there......but I do not have a reason to complain about the $5 entrance fee. This view is arguably the most spectacular one in this area, but definitely is the cheapest majestic view you can get. (Some would say the Hunt's Mesa is even better, but find the price to shoot there from the Navajos!)

It is not only the bees that like the Jade flowers, the flies do too.

The bees are still very busy on the Jade flowers.

We had a great time on our Coyote Buttes Workshop this past week. Not only did we see some spectacular scenery, but we were treated to great sunrises & sunsets each day we went out! That almost never happens. Here's a shot of one of the workshop participants near the Wave in North Coyote Buttes. The reflected light and color in this channel definitely doesn't look real, but if you've been here, you know how amazing can be at the right time of day.

Cowpea Aphid (Aphis craccivora)
