I had the distinct pleasure of being the Academy Coordinator of the Grant High School Criminal Justice Magnet Academy. One of my academy graduates treated me to dinner. Tonight we ate and talked and enjoyed a good meal at Dos Coyotes. I had the Burrito Bowl. It was just ok. (Wish it was as good as Chipotle's Burrito Bowl)

I was craving for some Chipotle, so I decided to create a healthier version, since I've been watching what I eat lately. :)

First time at Chipotle

I was having dinner with my friend Helen outside a Chipotle, when these house sparrows (just this guy and his mate) came flitting up and running all around looking for handouts. We resisted feeding them our food, but Mr. House Sparrow was still gracious enough to sit and pose for four shots. I chose this one because he was looking directly at me....

Maybe I'll call him Chip. Chip Otle.

A Burrito bowl is healthy lunch option if prepared with proper ingredients as it is packed with protein, carb, fiber and veggies which will keep you full for longer period of time. All the ingredients can be separately prepared and stored for making ready to eat Burrito bowl. A burrito bowl is prepared with ingredients like rice, beans, chicken, steak, avocado, salads and other vegetables such has tomato, bell peppers, onion, etc. sometime burrito bowl is confused with taco salad but both are different, taco salad has lettuce at its foundation inside a fried tortilla and burrito bowl is prepared with rice at its base. Though it is called burrito bowl, it is technically not burrito because the main ingredients of burrito is tortilla.

If you’ve never had pulled pork then you are missing out. The long, slow method of cooking required to make the meat soft enough to be pulled apart makes pork tender, juicy and incredibly flavour some. It’s only been in the last few years that this way of eating pork has become popular in the UK, but for the origins of the dish we have to look a little further afield.

USA

Pulled pork has its origins in the deep south of the United States, in places like North Carolina and Tennessee. Slow cooking was recognised as a way of cooking the cheaper or tougher cuts of meat and making better use of the entire pig. Pulled pork is usually made from the shoulder of the pig, and although the exact recipe varies from area to area, all involve the treating of the meat before it is cooked. The pork is cooked over the barbecue to give it a distinctive smoky flavour, and like other smoked meats the pulled pork is cooked for hours over a very low heat.

Serving

The traditional American way is to serve your pulled pork with a tomato, barbecue or mustard based sauce, or with rice or in a bread roll / bap.

It is in Ensenada, a fishing port on the Pacific coast of Baja California that the fish tacos (tacos de pescado) were born in the early 1960s.

The story goes that a fisherman whose nickname was Bachihualato was selling meat tacos (carne asada tacos) on the dock. He was often asked to deep fry freshly caught fish. One day, he decided to start selling a fish species widespread in Baja California but which was not especially popular: a type of called angelito or Pacific angel shark. Bachihualato’s tacos began to experience a huge success, especially with the tourist population.

The fisherman subsequently sought a method to prevent the fish from sticking to the pan. It was then that he began to use flour and eventually a batter composed of flour and beer akin to tempura batter which was probably inspired by the Japanese population that migrated to Mexico and particularly Baja California in the course of the twentieth century.

Another Slacker Gourmet post in the works... it's really hard to make this look appealing, though.
