Hired in Newport Bus Alexander Dennis E40D / Enviro 400MMC SK70 BUP (406) passing through Perry Barr, Birmingham in connection with the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games, 28/07/22
Delivered 11 Sep 80 as N1295E. Re-registered as PH-BUP Jan 91. It later became N94104. Broken up Jakarta 2010.
I found this beetle on the wall of a suburban home on a cool late fall day. Looks like it has just crawled out from under some siding. I guess they overwinter as adults.
Sculptured Pine Borer - Chalcophora virginiensis (length 27 mm)
This is a series of images to be sure to distinguish this species from the other member of this genus found in my area.

Ventral view. It is rather more coppery underneath. I love the big tarsal pads.

Jewel Beetle - Mastogenius crenulatus (~2.8 mm); also posted at:

Location: Durham NC (USA)
There are two species in this genus found in eastern North America, this one and subcyaneus. This keys to crenulatus based on:
1-elytra black, no bluish sheen as in subcyaneus
2-length/width 2.6 (<2.4 in subcyaneus)
3-pronotum with many setae, none in subcyaneus (Evans)
