I found this beetle on the wall of a suburban home on a cool late fall day. Looks like it has just crawled out from under some siding. I guess they overwinter as adults.
Sculptured Pine Borer - Chalcophora virginiensis (length 27 mm)
This is a series of images to be sure to distinguish this species from the other member of this genus found in my area.
Chalcophora georgiana - Southern Sculptured Pine Borer

This little buprestid has a delightful bold pattern. It was resting on vegetation beside a trail at the Eno Confluence Natural Area on a pleasant late spring day.

Stagecoach Mansfield depot provided me with no less than THREE more vehicles to cross off; this E200, an E300 and an ALX400! Unusually, Enviro 200 36517 is seen here just setting off from Victoria bus station with the Amazon A3 service - on all previous occasions that I've seen this, it's been run by a decker. As much as I was disappointed by the lack of epic Trident, I was pleased to see a Mansfield based Enviro 200, as I don't see them very often.
The distinct lack of black window or headlight masking is a fairly obvious sign this was painted at Lincoln, during that phase where they were afraid of using the colour black on, well, anything. It's almost like they wanted to highlight that the dimensions of each side window was determined by a random number generator.
